also! this fic is based on the song summer by Chloe lilac
Theseus wasn’t used to seeing Hogwarts illuminated by the summer sunshine. He was used to the gloomy Europe weather clouding the skies with dark clouds that made Hogwarts look dreary on the outside. He took one last look at the school before following his classmates to the train. Theseus was returning home with his brother for the summer and returning to Hogwarts once the next school semester started.
As everybody began to board the train, Theseus lost sight of Newt in the busy crowd of students and luggage but knew his brother would find his way into the train. He found a seat next to some people he knew from his dorm and listened distantly to their conversation, a little too wrapped up in his thoughts to be paying too much attention to their conversation. Theseus wondered what next year would be like as next year was his last year at Hogwarts and was dragged out of his thoughts when one of his friends asked, “Theseus, what are you doing this summer?”
“Oh, nothing much, probably,” Theseus replied shyly, watching everybody’s reactions. People shook their heads and some looked worried. His friend who had asked the question widened her eyes, exclaiming, “Nothing much? Theseus, this is our last summer before we become adults! You have to live a little! Go out and experience life!”
Everybody nodded in agreement and Theseus shrugged reluctantly, “All right. I’ll try to, I guess.”
“That’s the spirit!” Theseus’ friend smiled before everybody moved on to question another person. His thoughts shifted away from school and his last year at Hogwarts and more towards summer. His friends were right; he did need to experience summer without worrying about studying. Maybe this summer would finally be the chance for Theseus to live his life.
Or not, Theseus thought as he got off the train station and watched Newt run into his mother’s arms. He forgot that he had little to no friends in London and that he was probably going to be stuck with his parents for the majority of summer. He sighed and brought his luggage over to his parents, greeting them with hugs. Just as he predicted, his summer was unpredictable, at least for the first two weeks. He mostly lounged around at home, looked over spell books, or watched Newt to make sure that his brother didn’t get into too much trouble.
Then, one day, Theseus was sitting outside his apartment building on a wooden bench, reading a book when he met you. You were riding your bicycle on the street with some friends, laughing loudly. This prompted him to look up from the book he was reading and make awkward eye contact with you. He tried to return to reading the book and brush off that moment but you didn’t let it go.
“Hey! Boy with the book! What are you doing? It’s summer, you shouldn’t be reading,” You biked over to the sidewalk where the bench Theseus was sitting on was located. You waved to your friends, indicating that they should continue on without you and that you would catch up so they took off, giggling in the distance.
“Well, I don’t have something better to do with my time,” Theseus replied, bookmarking his page and placing the book next to him on his bench. You got off your bicycle and walked up to the bench, brushing a stray strand of hair away from your face while maintaining a steady grip on your bicycle with the other.
“You’re not from around here, are you?” You asked, an accusatory tone unintentionally crawling into your voice. A mild look of surprise crossed Theseus’ face as he nodded. “I figured. I haven’t seen you around and I’ve been here for ages.”
“Yeah, well I’ve here and I go to a boarding school during the school year,” Theseus explained, slightly entranced by the expression of curiosity you had. “I’m Theseus by the way. I don’t think I mentioned my name before.”
“Oh, I’m Y/n. You clearly have no friends here, no offense, if you haven’t been here for the majority of the year. Why don’t you hang out with me and my friends? We could use an extra brain in our group,” You grinned, a mischievous glint in your eye. Normally Theseus wouldn’t have accepted your offer but he remembered how his friends all urged him to live his life to the fullest during summer. He knew reading books alone was definitely not what living his life to the fullest looked like so he made up his mind only after a moment of consideration.
“Why not?”
“That’s the spirit!” You smiled at his response and mounted your bike. “We’ll be at the dock waiting for you. Be there with a bike in ten minutes!”
Theseus didn’t even get a chance to ask what you would be doing at the dock before you took off and sighed as he went to get his bicycle. As he hiked to the dock, a warm summer breeze ruffled his hair gently and he smiled, feeling a little better than he had before when he was reading alone. When he arrived at the dock, he met you and your friends. You introduced your friends to him and to his delight, they were all pretty nice.
At the dock, you taught him how to pull some pranks on some fishermen (of course, harmless) and you reminded him of Newt a ton. Theseus had almost forgotten that you were a muggle and almost told you about a spell Newt liked to use to confuse the professors at Hogwarts. Although he was skeptical and cautious at first, Theseus began to enjoy himself a lot and found himself laughing with you and your friends.
Every day of summer was different with you. Some days you and your friends would take him on relaxing bicycle rides around the city and sometimes you would dare him to perform brave tasks, like buying baby food and telling the cashier it was for his baby. Theseus felt like a real teenager as he was doing all these irrational but fun tasks and before he knew it, summer was approaching its end.
Theseus was excited to tell all his friends about your fiery personality and all your friends but he was going to miss you a lot as well. School for muggles started one day before he had to take a train back to Hogwarts so Theseus had stayed at home alone on the last of summer. He was reading a book when he heard a knock on his door.
When he opened the door, he saw you standing with a bouquet of sunflowers in your hand. You threw your arms around him in a comforting manner and whispered, “Don’t you dare forget about me.”
Theseus laughed as you pulled away, handing him the bouquet of sunflowers, “I won’t.”
And he was true to his word. Theseus told all his classmates about the crazy summer he had with you and told everybody about you and your brilliant laugh. He told his mother to take care of the sunflowers while he was gone and when Theseus graduated from Hogwarts and came back home, the sunflowers were still alive, more vibrant and welcoming than ever.
