“What makes me special? I don’t know. All I did was survive.

I survived Mindoir, when batarian slavers attacked the colony, because my sister pulled me to safety when they opened fire on our grandparents. I survived the Skyllian Blitz, because my sister was there to keep the fire off me while I repaired the defense tower battery. I survived Sovereign’s attack on the Citadel, because my sister threw me bodily out of the way of the debris that came hurtling toward us.

When the Normandy SR-1 was destroyed, I survived because my sister ordered me to get off the ship. For two years without her, I survived because that’s what she would have wanted me to do. When she went through the Omega relay, I was with her, and I survived because she took the first damned opportunity to send me back to the ship from the Collector base.

The last time I saw her, she made sure I would survive. She called the Normandy SR-2 down into the middle of the carnage on Earth because I was injured; she ordered Kaidan to take me on board. She told me she was proud of me, and she told him to take care of me. And she went off and died, saving the whole damned galaxy by herself.

My sister is the reason I’m alive. I’m not special. I never was. But because of Commander Samantha Shepard ...

SC fallout is pretty ok because it has lots of lore on Sam's personal life and backstory. Even more than the games

I asked on Reddit too and got a reply saying that they felt the same about how I felt about Checkmate after the first two and said Fallout was better. That’s what most of the stuff I read online also said. I really like the more personal stuff of Sam so I’ll start reading it soon :P
