Believe it or not, the phobia of halloween does exist. Whether there are some of us who love to watch scary movies or simply love wearing horrifying costumes to attend haunted houses, there are those people who are afraid and hate anything associated with halloween.
Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween or the fear of the festival of the dead. The term Samhainophobia originates from 'Samhuin' meaning summer's end. The Samhain festival was celebrated by the Celts for marking the transition between summer and winter.

Samhainophobia
As Halloween grows nearer and this dread increases, I feel I must get this off my chest.
I have Samhainophobia. That means that I have a debilitating fear of Halloween. I've tried to look for information that others with this fear have put into media. But people with this phobia seem to be rare. All of the media I've found of it is either the definition of the word, how to pronounce it, or a joke about it in some way.
It's not funny. Fear isn't funny.
I can't even go to the store to buy food from late-August to mid-November because these places sell Halloween decorations. I get sent into hysterics.
It's not even that I hate every part of the holiday either. I can get behind candy, and costumes, and pumpkins. That's cute. Fun, even. But a few years ago, I thought handing out candy to kids wouldn't be an issue. Some Stormtroopers, some Disney Princesses. No big deal, right? Wrong. Panic Attack. I thought I was having a heart attack. I was totally convinced that I was not going to live to see morning.
My plans for Halloween this year? Stay home. Watch a movie. Maybe even carve a pumpkin. But that's it. This is all so overwhelming. My fingers are literally shaking as I write this.
This isn't fun for me.
