Lake Toba in Sumatra, Indonesia

This 1130 square kilometer lake occupies the caldera of a supervolcano on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. At its deepest point, the bottom of the lake lies 505 metres below the surface. A small island, called Samosir, can be found in the middle of the lake.

Tip: visiting Samosir island and staying for a few nights will give you the opportunity to explore the beautiful nature of the island, learn about the unique culture of the indigenous people of Samosir or simply relax and enjoy the hot springs and swimming in lake Toba.
