‘Winged Victory of Samothrace,’ (c. 200–190 BC)

Discovered in 1863 on the Greek island of Samothrace in the northern Aegean Sea, by Charles Champoiseau, 

Musée du Louvre, Paris, France (1886 – present).

The magnificent statue of the "Winged Victory of Samothrace" on display in the Louvre. She dates from c.190 B.C, is sculpted from Parian Marble, stands 9ft tall and weighs an incredible 29 tons. Restored and cleaned in 2013/14, she remains one of the finest (and beautiful) examples of original Hellenistic art to survive 🏛🏛🏛🏛🏛
