#XichengClipse2020 Day: 01 |Prompt: Protection
---------------------
“You should tell him, Er-ge.” Meng Yao says as he comes to sit down beside Lan Xichen. His whiskey colored eyes following his friend and fellow guardian's gaze. It landed on the man currently working in the garden planting new flowers.
“Like you told Da-ge?” Lan Xichen pushed back even though he knew that the comparison wasn’t fair. Nie Mingjue wasn’t Meng Yao’s fated one. Poor man was told that his fated one was, Nie Mingjue's younger brother, Huaisang. His poor friend had such a mess of his own guardianship it wasn't right to poke at him about it.
“He’s not the one you’re destined to fall in love with according to the oracle.” Meng Yao responded, with an arched brow that looked rather judgy for being a golden tabby cat.
“I know but I am doing this for his own protection. I can reveal myself when the time is right.” Lan Xichen responded with a heavy sigh.
“Er-ge there will never be a right time. When you do it. He is going to feel like you’ve been lying which to a degree you have. Besides, you don’t want someone else telling him before you do.” Meng Yao replied.
Xichen let out another sigh and knew it was the truth. His charge, Jiang Cheng felt so deeply about things and it didn’t help that before Xichen had found him he had a hard life. Jiang Cheng’s mother had passed away before divulging to his father that she was charmed. So when Jiang Cheng had gotten angry during a fight with his father and made all the books in his father’s office move off the shelves. Jiang Fengmian had kicked him out. Jiang Cheng would have been on his own if not for his grandmother, but the woman was gone now. So it was so hard for Jiang Cheng to let other people in.
Meng Yao let out a soft sigh then turned to look at Lan Xichen. “Just promise to try to do it soon.”
“I promise.” Lan Xichen said before getting up and shaking his coat. He gave Meng Yao his best version of a smile then went down into the garden to Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng smiled as he heard the jingle of the bell on Snowdrop’s collar. “Hey, Snowdrop.” Jiang Cheng called him. He stopped shoveling dirt, wiping his forehead. “Did you have fun with your friend?” He asked, looking back to find the cat leaving. He chuckled as Snowdrop barked then moved close to nuzzle his arm.
“I’ll take that as yes. Now, let me finish this then we can get out of this heat.” Jiang Cheng stated then laughed at earning another bark. “I’ll take that as a yes too.”
