HEY SO THE UNBELIEVABLY BRILLIANT, TALENTED @chuck-the-goon DREW A SCENE FROM ONE OF MY SAM/RASHID STORIES AND I’M LOSING MY MIND. I never, ever thought I’d see an artist draw them. That’s not even an exaggeration, holy fuck. @chuck-the-goon, this is just extraordinary? The light and shadow on their skin, their expressions? The earbuds? This is that one scene in “The Quick Ones” when the interview surveillance is just so fucking dull, so—you nailed it. They had to occupy themselves somehow!

(By which I mean I've been shipping him with Rashid for so long I've forgotten they are not canon and I'll be disappointed if they don't have at least one scene together.)

“You want me to cut out those pennants so you can…do what with them?” Armand asks.

Sam indicates the beads already tacked to the edge of the mantelpiece.  “String them up.”

Armand grimaces.  “You’re a diplomat’s companion.  At least pretend to have the taste.”

Horror and Monotony

Sometimes Rashid wished he had a desk job.

There were desk jobs within the Talamasca. Archivists who worked deep underground, cataloging and categorizing the artefacts that came through the motherhouse. It would have been dreadfully boring, but there was a stability there that part of him longed for.

Not that what he was doing now wasn’t stable. Most days the routine was almost dull. His employer -- not the Talamasca, no, the employer with fangs -- thrived on routine. Demanded it. Perhaps the most important part of Rashid’s job was to ensure everything went according to plan.

There was, of course, one reprieve to the unique mix of horror and monotony he faced every day.

The Real Rashid/Sam Barclay art situation just keeps getting better and better, guys! I’m so excited to show you the above brand-new one; I commissioned it from the spectacular @fighto-art as an illustration for The Quick Ones. I’ve gotten to know @fighto-art’s work in the process of collaborating on a card in the IWTV tarot project as it continues to regroup; I could not have hoped to commission a more talented artist for these guys’ London motherhouse drinking shenanigans! Look at them! 💙

Sam Barclay loudly soapboxing about how much he hates the English, and then everyone side-eyeing him and glancing at Rashid like.... Ummmm... And then Sam getting all flustered and shouting, "THEY COLONISED HIS ANCESTORS TOO, HE DOESN'T FUCKIN' COUNT!" and then Rashid is like, "love, I was literally born in Coventry."
