Why are we bound to the ground?
BOOK COVER REVEAL
Dear reader,
It is time I make my confession. We all behaved differently in the time of the Shadow, and I am not proud of what I did. The world itself was also different in the time of the Shadow. Most people alive do not remember this time, though it only came to an end last year and began centuries ago. The Shadow once towered taller than any skyscraper, higher than any airplane could have flown. It was an abyss; it encompassed the city of Acheron and covered, we believed, the rest of the world, though no one who had entered the Shadow had ever returned to describe its insides. In a city where one's Gift determined one's place, my Gift put me at the very bottom of the mountain city. You see, my "Gift" was not useful to anyone. In fact, it inflicted pain on whoever approached me, and so no one wanted to be my friend. I was all alone, reader, with only the stars for company in the abandoned cathedral, though even the stars hid from my sight. They hid from everyone. Or maybe everyone hid from them…
My actions in the time of the Shadow were selfish and foolish, and I am here to tell my story. All will be brought to light. Even the Shadow.
Your friend,
Lucia Sanctum

-Excerpt from "SANCTVM," my memoir.
I've been lonely most of my life, reader. It always seemed to be my curse, a bane placed on me at a very young age. I always believed the stars would take this "Gift" away from me if I begged them long enough, if I prayed to them faithfully enough. Reader, is there something in your life—maybe a relationship, an illness, a responsibility, or just a sad fact—that would leave you happy and complete if only it were gone?

Link to first chapter:
What are you building for yourself in this life, reader? What do you invest your whole soul into? When I lived in Acheron, many invested themselves into the Materialist's new kingdom, but even with all its luxury and light, it could not outshine the stars forever...

It is only natural to look for answers, to wonder about the truths of the universe. How can we trust ourselves, reader, to determine what is true and what we wish were true?
