“ANZAC CENTENARY STREET ART MURAL”
by Sankar Nadeson
Recognized around the world for graffiti filled alleys like Hosier Lane, Melbourne’s “unique laneway arts culture” finds space for expressions of all kinds... Founded in 1923 by WWI veteran Sir Stanley Savige, Legacy cares for families of Australian veterans who have lost their lives or health serving their country. On the 100th anniversary of the 1914 formation of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp (ANZAC), artist, tiler, and teacher Sankar Nadeson—”The Mosaic Man”—began producing a series of portraits, honoring Savige and other important members of the Legacy family, in Drewery Lane on the back wall of Legacy House. Nadeson’s portraits are surrounded by hundreds of hand-made tiles created by those whose lives have been touched by Legacy. @melbournelegacy
