'Mind Palace' - Artist's statement Being a lone-wolf & an introvert, I have presented the rooftop as my mind which I have deliberately exposed & made public. The passage walls, the floor in between, the courtyard & the walls surrounding it; I have painted all of them based on one of my own writings called Freedom of Thought, which I composed especially for this work. Below this writing which is prominent throughout the rooftop, I have used different excerpts on diverse topics from my notebooks. Basing the project on a specific chain of prominent thoughts and spreading it all over the walls & the floor; over writings, tones & patterns which represent diverse feelings, emotions & the subconscious mind; I am expressing that I am strong enough to entertain a single flow of thoughts regardless of my emotional roller coaster & constant overthinking. When the audience enters the rooftop; they will be taking a stroll inside my mind, surrounded by my thoughts, composing their own thoughts in the process. They would be walking inside my mind & my mind would be walking inside theirs. For me, art is “One Way” most of the time; in the sense that for example when an audience views an art work, the work gets inside their minds but they don’t get a chance to get inside the artist’s mind in return. They can only judge what could be on the artist’s mind from the artist’s statement(s) etc. but here I have given the audience a chance to not just get into my mind through intuition; but take a walk in it, run, jump, sing, dance or even lie down and take a nap. I have used this opportunity to artistically produce a literal representation of the famous expression “getting inside someone’s mind". - 2000 sq ft. Acrylic enamel, plastic emulsion.
