I think the hate TheWizardLiz is receiving right now is because some of you strongly believe that when a woman becomes a mother, she ceases to be an individual. My opinion on that myth (because for me it's a myth of the patriarchy) is that it's a way of imprisoning a woman. TheWizardLiz grew up seeing how her mother didn't leave her father in order to maintain the image of a responsible mother. And I think that's the worst thing a mother can do. Staying with your abusive partner just for the sake of the children is absolutely a lie; those children will grow up hating both their mother and father equally.

I also think women receive more hate for "abandoning" their children than men, and I also think that has to do with all the crap that's made up about motherhood and maternal instinct. For many, a woman "abandoning" her children is unnatural, but for a man to do it is considered normal.

I put "abandon" in quotation marks because Liz didn't abandon her son, but rather distanced herself from that blackmail. If she continued dancing to the tune that guy was playing, this story would NEVER end, because that's how blackmail works.
