the interrogation room was a cold room with dim lighting, furnished with only a simple metal chair and table
with your arm handcuffed to the table, you could do nothing but attempt to remain calm as your interrogator glared at you with suspicion, not at all believing you for a second
“so, you want me to believe that you’re the boss’s wife, and that this bento was meant for him?” the man questioned with a scoff. “there’s nothing here but taiyaki!”
“well, i-it’s the truth,” you told him nervously. “just call mikey and-”
“like i’d bother the boss with this nonsense. you better start telling me the truth, lady. which organization are you working for?!”
and before you could even say a word, your husband suddenly walked into the room, a look of clear anger on his face once he noticed the handcuffs secured around your wrist
“when you didn’t answer my texts, i got worried. now i know why,” mikey said before turning to look at his subordinate with an absolutely murderous expression. “that’s my wife. uncuff her, now”
with an immediate apology, the man quickly removed your handcuffs before running out the room the second mikey ordered him to leave
“are you okay?” mikey asked quietly, placing a gentle kiss on your wrist when he noticed the light bruising
“the next time you want taiyaki, just ask sanzu to buy it for you,” you tried to joke
“i’m sorry. i wanted to see you, though,” mikey stated with a seldom smile that was only ever meant for you, causing you to look at your husband in surprise before responding with your own smile
“i love you, too”
haitani ran
“h-he’s not picking up his phone,” you noted with anxious laughter as the automated voicemail informed you that ran was currently unavailable
seeing the man in front you shooting you an unimpressed glare, you couldn’t help but begin to worry
and to think, ran was the one who had initially asked you to bring his bento to him at work after forgetting it at home, yet now he was inconveniently unable to answer any of your calls
“then i’m afraid i’m going to have to bring you to the interrogation room for further questioning,” the man simply stated
“i-i swear i’m telling you the truth,” you tried to reason with him as the man suddenly grabbed onto your arm
“she’s not lying, you know,” a familiar voice called out, causing you to sigh in relief once you saw who it was. “that’s my wife, and if you don’t let go of her right now, i’ll make sure to break all your fingers”
standing there in his pinstripe suit, ran approached the scene before him with anger in his eyes
“w-wife?” the man repeated in disbelief, immediately taking a few steps away from you once he processed ran’s words. “i-i’m sorry, sir. i-i didn’t know”
“well, now you do,” ran remarked with a chuckle, though there was clearly no amusement in his laughter. “leave, now”
without another word said, the man quickly ran away in fear, leaving you in the company of your husband
ran was quick to notice the annoyed glare that you were sending him, and he kissed you in amusement before voicing a quiet apology
“i know, i know. i’m sorry for not answering your calls. i’ll make it up to you,” ran promised sincerely, kissing you once more
haitani rindou
after concluding a meeting with one of bonten’s clients, rindou was making his way to his office when he happened to overhear two of his subordinates talking among themselves
“and then she said that she was married to an executive! please, do you think i’d fall for something like that?” one of the men laughed
“so you locked her up in the interrogation room for saito to deal with?” the other man questioned nervously
“yeah, pretty much”
with an unimpressed frown, rindou decided to ignore the rest of their conversation at the mention of the infamous saito
he was bonten’s famed interrogator, having made a name for himself because of his cruel and sadistic interrogation methods
rindou couldn’t help but feel sorry for whoever this unfortunate woman was
“it’s too bad, though. she was a real beauty,” the first man mused before he went on to describe someone rather familiar to rindou
in that moment, rindou suddenly remembered your text from this morning that informed him you would be stopping by his workplace with a homemade bento for lunch
all rindou could register was the sentiment of panic as he quickly ran to the interrogation room where you were supposedly being held captive
violently kicking down the door, he was greeted with the terrifying sight of saito standing before you with a knife in hand
“oh. hello, sir. i was just about to start with my interrogation-”
“get away from her, that’s my wife!” rindou proclaimed angrily
after saito was ordered to remove your handcuffs and quickly leave the room, rindou hurried over to you and immediately pulled you to his chest
“i’m sorry. i’m so sorry,” he whispered, his heart breaking once he noticed the way you hands were shaking
“just keep holding me, please,” you requested quietly, wrapping your arms around your husband as he comfortingly kissed the top of your head
sanzu haruchiyo
with a tired sigh, you glanced at the building across from you before frowning when you realized that your husband was still nowhere in sight
sanzu had forgotten his bento at home, so being the thoughtful wife that you were, you had decided to bring it to him at work
considering your husband’s manic personality and how he was not replying to any of your texts, you couldn’t help but be worried
steeling your resolve, you cautiously approached the two men standing near the front doors, who had been glaring at you the entire time with suspicion
“can we help you?” the man to your left questioned with a challenging raise of his eyebrow
“um, would you be able to call sanzu haruchiyo?” you asked timidly
“and just who are you exactly?” the one to your right scoffed
“a-a friend?” you answered hesitantly. “could you please tell him-”
“listen, lady,” the first man spoke. “can’t you see this isn’t a place for someone like you? we don’t have time for this. hurry up and leave already”
“please, it shouldn’t be too much trouble to-”
“i told you to leave,” he ordered angrily, intent on pushing you away after becoming annoyed with your continuous pleading
however, before his hand could land on your shoulder, sanzu harshly and unexpectedly took a hold of the man’s wrist
“touch her, and i’ll kill you,” sanzu threatened with a murderous smile before making his way to stand next to you. “that’s my wife you’re talking to”
seeing both of the men’s fearful reactions, sanzu chuckled before wrapping a protective arm around your waist and lovingly kissing your cheek
“i’ll be speaking to the two of you later,” sanzu warned darkly, glaring at the two men before turning to you with an adoring smile. “sorry to keep you waiting, love. let’s go enjoy our lunch date now”

Cold and emotionless were the two words that would perfectly describe Bonten’s leader, Sano Manjiro. He was a man feared by many because of his overwhelming power and influence, but what made him truly terrifying was his ability to apathetically sentence others to death and suffering without any regard for the people he condemned. This was what made him so feared and why the three subordinates standing before him refused to say a single word, afraid of further angering their boss.
“Mikey will be speaking now,” Sanzu addressed solemnly, gesturing to the man currently sitting on the couch. His leader’s expression was one of complete boredom as he stared at the men in front of him.
“I gave you one job,” Mikey stated plainly, his tone low and quiet as he casually rested his arm on the back of the couch. “Yet you still somehow managed to fuck it up. Whose fault was it?”
None of the three men made any motion to speak, their eyes distant as they stared into three different directions, unable to meet their boss’s scary and demanding gaze. A displeased scoff immediately rang out from Mikey’s right as Sanzu began to draw his gun and threateningly take aim, but Mikey signalled for his second-in-command to be patient as he awaited his answer.
“So you’re saying that it’s no one’s fault? Or are you guys trying to say that it’s all of your faults?” Mikey tried to reason from the men’s lack of response, an ever-present glare now on his face.
Suddenly, a series of incomprehensible replies replaced the once deathly silence of the room, the three men panicking as they all tried to come up with some sort of excuse to spare themselves from their boss’s wrath. However, their indiscernible answers only served to annoy Mikey more than anything, and he was tired of being merciful.
“I don’t care!” Mikey suddenly shouted, his anger now making itself known. “I want a single fucking answer, so you better start-”
“Dad!” a familiarly cheerful voice suddenly interrupted, causing everyone to freeze as a young boy ran into the room with an excited smile on his face. “Dad, look at what I drew at school!”
“Shinsuke, be careful,” you quietly reprimanded your son as you watched him run to his father without any concern for the dangerous scenario he had just walked into. “I-I’m so sorry, love. I didn’t know if you were busy, and Shinsuke wanted to-”
“It’s fine,” Mikey quickly reassured, the anger that once painted his face completely gone as he greeted Shinsuke with an uncharacteristically gentle smile, his son now happily sitting beside him. “Hey, Shin. What did you draw, buddy?”
“I drew you and me and mom!” Shinsuke explained animatedly, pointing to each of the three people on his piece of paper. To anyone else, Shinsuke’s drawing would have simply looked like a colourful collection of random scribbles, with each person in the drawing looking completely unrecognizable from who they were supposedly meant to be. However, to Mikey, his son’s drawing was a work of art that rivalled even the greatest of world-renowned painters.
“It’s great, Shin,” Mikey remarked sincerely, his heart warming when he saw his son’s proud and happy smile. “I’ll make sure to frame it and put it on my desk, okay?”
“Okay!” Shinsuke gladly agreed, suddenly remembering something important as he got two dorayakis from his backpack. “Mom and I bought these on our way here. Here, dad, it’s your favourite. We can share them.”
“Thanks, buddy,” Mikey replied with an affectionate chuckle before his eyes quickly shot over to his three subordinates, who had been quietly standing there, silent and unmoving. “Shinsuke, I’m kind of busy right now, so can go wait with your mom in one of your uncles’ offices? I’ll talk to you both as soon as I’m done here, all right?”
“All right, dad!” Shinsuke answered happily, leaving his drawing and a dorayaki in his father’s care as he hurried over to you while waving goodbye to everyone. “Bye, dad! Bye, Uncle Haru! Bye, misters!”
Unlike your son, you simply offered everyone a timid smile before you held onto Shinsuke’s hand and left the room as soon as possible, knowing that your husband was not in the best of moods right now. Watching you and Shinsuke leave his office, Mikey redirected his sharp gaze to his three subordinates, his face devoid of any previous emotions as he glared at them once more.
It was almost as if he was a completely different person now that his family was gone, and in a stupid attempt to appeal to his boss’s sentiments, one of the men offered Mikey a shaky smile before nervously asking, “I-is that your family, boss? They remind me so much of my own wife and kid! Y-your son looks so much like you-”
“Who gave you permission to speak, let alone look at my wife and son?” Mikey asked coldly, instantly bringing the temperature of the room down by a couple of degrees, and the man immediately knew he had made a great mistake.
“N-no one, sir! I’m sorry, sir! Please forgive me, sir!” the man instantly responded, falling to the floor as he begged for forgiveness.
Mikey said nothing as he continued to glare at the man, his face now leaning against his hand as he placed his arm on the couch’s armrest, his silent demeanour and posture resembling that of a cruel and contemptuous king who was seated on top of his throne. This anxious silence went on for a few seconds before Mikey spoke again, his words deliberate as he gave his subordinates one final warning. “Well? I’m still waiting for my answer.”
summary — three months after the wedding, and you’re still trying to get used to your new last name
note — likes and reblogs are always appreciated
The loud and sudden sound of your name had you lifting an eyebrow in surprise as you curiously watched your husband march into the living room with an indignant pout on his face. Before you could even put your book aside on the couch and ask Mikey what the problem was, he presented you with a familiar piece of paper and angrily pointed to the perfectly looped letters that comprised your name and acted as your signature.
“What is this?” Mikey demanded as you stared at him in confusion. It was a simple letter that you had written to your parents, updating them on how your life was since the last time they had seen you at your wedding.
“A letter to my parents?” you answered cautiously, still confused at your husband’s annoyed demeanour.
“No, not that! This signature!” Mikey clarified with a huff, once again pointing to the cursive letters. “This isn’t your name.”
Glancing at the signature, you tilted your head in confusion. That clearly was your name, what else could it be? It took you a few more seconds before you finally understood what Mikey was trying to say, and you immediately began to laugh at your melodramatic husband.
Mikey was right, that wasn’t your name anymore, not since your wedding from three months prior. However, you were still unaccustomed to using your new last name, much to your husband’s clear disheartenment. And so, while you tried to stop laughing and catch your breath, you noticed Mikey pouting even more, about to storm away when you quickly wrapped your arms around his waist in protest.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” you said with a chuckle, your tone of amusement clearly not at all matching your supposedly apologetic words. “I just forget that I’m a Sano now.”
“Oh, because that makes it better!” Mikey remarked with a frown as he lightly tried to push you away in an attempt to leave, but this act only made you smile even more. Knowing your husband’s strength, he could have easily left if he wanted to.
“I’ll correct it to say Sano if that makes you feel better, Mikey,” you offered, staring up at your husband with a grin when he finally decided to stop struggling.
Staring back at you, Mikey froze for a moment as he took notice and appreciated your pretty face, quickly glancing away to cover the flustered expression that was threatening to distort his features. Although you were partially teasing him, the bright look in your eyes told Mikey that you were fine with fixing this superficial mistake if it was truly bothering him so much, and this thought alone reminded Mikey of why he was in love with you.
“I-it’s fine,” he stuttered, trying to appear casual and indifferent before he leaned down closer to you with a determined gaze. “But I want a kiss as an apology!”
With an exasperated sigh, you soon found yourself smiling and granting your husband’s request with an affectionate kiss. Admittedly, his reaction was somewhat overdramatic, but you still couldn’t help but think that it was rather cute. Mikey should have known that he had nothing to be worried about. Even if you were sometimes forgetful, you were more than happy and accepting of your new last name. After all, it was connected to the man you loved most in this world, Sano Manjiro.

sano “mikey” manjiro
looking at you was like staring into a mirror
when it was made known throughout the criminal underworld that bonten was in need of a skilled assassin, you had been recommended to them by one of their informants
despite your rather handsome appearance, there was nothing particularly noteworthy about you, yet mikey was quick to recognize that you both shared the same distant, blank eyes, which told similar stories of tragedy, trauma, and loss
“what’s your name?” was mikey’s first question after reviewing your extensive list of past assassinations, noticing how you had failed to provide any basic information about yourself
“ghost,” you answered, your voice quiet and monotone
“the legendary assassin?” sanzu mumbled from where he stood next to mikey’s desk
“i meant your real name,” bonten’s leader corrected with a frown
“i don’t have one. that was the name given to me when i was found by my teacher”
with a raised eyebrow, mikey continued with his line of questioning before eventually concluding the interview by asking why bonten should hire you
“you have money. i need money,” you explained simply. “moreover, it would be highly beneficial if bonten was to hire me. from what i’ve observed, you and your men are not as good as you think you are”
your careless statement had sanzu immediately making a move for his gun, the weapon aimed at your head and his finger ready to pull the trigger the instant you decided to insult his king again
“you better watch your fucking mouth,” the second-in-command warned angrily
however, your expression remained unchanged as you blinked a few times in realization before responding with, “i apologize. my teacher has always told me that i have a habit of speaking unnecessarily. i suppose that i should have kept that comment to myself, even if it was true-”
sanzu haruchiyo
firing his gun without another word, sanzu watched in disbelief as you instantly stood from your seat before cleanly slicing the bullet in half with a blade that you had drawn from your sleeve
for a quick moment, sanzu incredulously wondered which idiot had allowed you to pass the security check with a secret weapon on hand, but he immediately redirected his focus as he ran to protect mikey
“don’t fucking move,” he ordered, three other bonten members now also appearing in the room and similarily aiming their guns at you
although you were clearly at a disadvantage, the uninterested, almost bored, look on your face told sanzu that you didn’t see him, bonten, or mikey as any serious threats, and this slight against his king angered sanzu more than anything
“please, let’s not fight,” you calmly advised. “it’d be a shame if you gentlemen had to die for nothing”
“you don’t appear to realize the danger that you’re in right now,” sanzu said with a glare
“i could say the same to you,” you commented back as you readied your blade
and before sanzu could properly retort, mikey surprised him by signalling everyone to stand down
“you’re hired,” mikey announced, leaving sanzu to stare at him in complete shock. “your skills are undeniably, and they would be a great help to bonten. we’ll contact you at a later date about your contract and other arrangements”
“very well,” you replied with a slight nod. “thank you for this opportunity”
unable to contest his leader’s decision, sanzu simply glare as he watched you walk away
if he was going to be forced to work with you for who knew how long, then he spitefully promised to make your life at bonten a living hell
bonten
when news had reached the bonten higher-ups that you would be working with them, most of the executives had responded with concern and wariness after listening to sanzu’s retelling of your interview
the haitani brothers, however, were contrarily excited to meet you, thinking that it would be funny to try to befriend you in an attempt to annoy sanzu, and the three of you were soon constantly seen together and going on missions with one another
rindou liked you because you were quiet and similar in personality to him, while ran saw as a second younger brother that he needed to take care of
seeing your close friendship with ran and rindou, it didn’t take long before the opinions of the other executives began to shift, much to sanzu’s horror and betrayal
takeomi liked you well enough because you never really bothered him and always got your work done in a timely and efficient manner
mochi was admittedly afraid of you, as you never made any noise when you walked, and this would result in many instances where you would randomly appear before him
with koko, the two of you would often have afternoon tea together, with you actively listening to him talk about the various stresses of having to manage such a large organization’s finances
yet the one that you arguably got along best with was kakucho, as you had both grown up as orphans and would frequently confide with one another because of this shared past
sanzu, meanwhile, continued to act hostile toward you, and he did everything he could to keep true to his promise of making your life at bonten a living hell
“what do you mean you failed?” sanzu questioned tauntingly as you reported to mikey and the other executives about your latest mission. “the police superintendent was supposed to be an easy kill. how could you have possibly failed something like that?”
“i apologize. i had miscalculated,” you said before casting your eyes to the floor. “there was a thunderstorm that night, and his son was sleeping in the same bed as him. the boy had awoken just when i was about to eliminate the target”
“so what?” sanzu scoffed. “just kill the brat along with his old man”
“i-i couldn’t,” you admitted somberly, causing everyone to look at you in surprise, instantly noticing the hesitation in your usually monotone voice. “according to the reports, his father is all that he has left. i know the pain of what it’s like to be truly alone at such a young age, and i couldn’t do that to someone else”
“like that’s ever stopped you before,” sanzu countered
“i know that!” you angrily snapped, your mask of emotionless and apathetic assassin now gone. “i’m not a righteous person, and there’s too much blood on my hands to ever go back. b-but in that moment, i-i just couldn’t do it”
“do you honestly think that we care about your past trauma and broken self?” sanzu replied as he mockingly glared at you. “some legendary assassin you are. consider your contract-”
“sanzu, be quiet,” mikey interrupted, and the once animated man quickly fell silent
“i apologize, sir,” you spoke tiredly as you met mikey’s gaze. “i’ll accept the punishment that you decide to send my way”
and once again, mirroring the day that he had first met you, mikey was quick to take note of your distant, blank eyes, and he was hauntingly reminded of himself as he looked at you
“kakucho, arrange for someone else to deal with the superintendent,” mikey ordered, making you blink in confusion as he then addressed you. “you’re still greatly beneficial to bonten, so don’t think that i’m not letting you go that easily. i’ll put more consideration into your future assignments”
“thank you, sir,” you said quietly, a subtle smile now gracing your features, causing all of the executives to stare at you in shock and amazement, seeing you smile for the first time
with a nod of acknowledgement, mikey soon dismissed everyone from the meeting, and sanzu followed after his leader with another deadly glare directed at you as he left
“i can’t fucking believe this, can you?!” sanzu indignantly shouted two days later on bonten’s garden rooftop, takeomi standing next to him and looking absolutely uninterested. “if it had been anyone else, they would’ve been dead right now! what the fuck makes him so special?!”
“i don’t know, but why the hell are you talking to me?” takeomi asked as he tried to smoke in peace. “i thought you hated me?”
“i do,” sanzu confirmed without a second thought. “but everyone else was apparently too busy to listen to me. fuck, how do you guys even stand him? did you know that when he orders bubble tea with the haitanis, he gets two hundred percent sugar? something about his teacher never allowing him to have any sugar growing up, but two hundred percent? who does that?!”
“how would you even know that?” takeomi wondered quietly to himself as sanzu offered him a conspiratorial look
“have you also noticed that he’s been smiling a lot more around kakucho and the haitanis ever since that day?” sanzu continued to question. “clearly, he’s trying to get them on his side, and those idiots have actually fallen for it! he’ll be the ruin of bonten someday, i just know it!”
“do you ever think that the reason you can’t stand him is because you actually have a crush on him?” takeomi remarked absentmindedly, choosing not to mention the bright blush that began to colour sanzu’s face
“m-me and that show-off?! a-as if i could ever like someone like him!” sanzu proclaimed angrily before flusteredly marching away, cursing at takeomi with every step he took. “ridiculous! and everyone calls me the crazy one? l-like the two of us could ever work! me and him?! no way!”
“whatever you say, little brother,” takeomi said in amusement

when mikey had first met you, he had unintentionally protected you from a group of flirtatiously persistent men
he was leaving one of bonten’s nightclubs after an uneventful meeting with a client when he happened to see you being encircled by a group of three men
in any other instance, mikey would have simply scoffed and ignored the scene before him, but these men were in his way, and he had another meeting to attend to
“sanzu,” mikey ordered as his second-in-command immediately approached the three men with a manic grin on his face
it didn’t take long before they eventually left, nervous and fearful of sanzu’s eccentric personality and threats of violence
“u-um, thank you,” you quietly told sanzu before turning to mikey. “and thank you, too. i told them that i wasn’t interested, but they wouldn’t listen and-”
“just be careful next time,” mikey interrupted, and you simply sent him an appreciative smile in response
“yes, thank you again!”
the second time mikey had met you, he had been walking around tokyo in the early hours of the morning, reminiscing about his past
mikey missed the days where he could relax with his friends, get into random fights, and drive around the city without a care in the world
now, however, his life was painted with darkness, and there was too much blood on his hands to go back to the way things were
too focused on his own thoughts, mikey failed to notice that he had crashed into another person
“i-i’m sorry! i wasn’t paying attention and—oh! it’s you!”
“do i know you?” mikey questioned
“from the nightclub,” you clarified with a cheerful smile, noting his quiet hum of recognition. “thanks again for helping me”
and before mikey could correct you about his intentions from that night, you suddenly pulled him into a building, which he recognized as a café
“i never got to properly thank you, so choose whatever you want,” you happily insisted, hurrying to your place behind the counter and tying on an apron. “it’s on the house!”
and although mikey wanted nothing more in that moment than to leave, he somehow couldn’t say no to the pretty eyes and kind smile that patiently waited for his answer
with a reluctant sigh, mikey found himself asking, “do you have dorayaki?”
mikey didn’t know what to label his relationship with you
the two of you weren’t friends, though you would argue to the contrary
if mikey had to give a reason as to why he kept coming back to you, it would be because you gave him a sense of normalcy
you never asked him any questions about his past or what he did for a living, something that mikey was secretly grateful for
he would often visit your café in the early morning, before any customers arrived, and silently enjoy the snacks and cups of tea you would offer him as you continued on with your one-sided conversations
over time, mikey found himself actually liking your company
he no longer found your laughter annoying, your jokes stupid, or your stories tiring to listen to
he now had something to look forward to every morning before he inevitably drowned himself in death and despair once more
it was clear that mikey liked you romantically, but what was he supposed to do with this realization?
“mikey?” you suddenly addressed, successfully getting his attention. “were you listening? i was asking you about the seasonal menu changes. i was thinking matcha cakes, but i’m not sure. oh, i need to get some new drinks, too”
as mikey absentmindedly nodded along to your words, he couldn’t help but be drawn in by your calming voice and pretty face
without a second thought, he gently kissed you, effectively putting a stop to whatever you were saying
“you talk too much,” was mikey’s only response as you tried to process what just happened before stuttering in embarrassment
mikey had always been someone who acted first before thinking, so he decided in that moment to be selfish and follow his heart
how foolish he was to think that he was actually deserving of happiness
broken glass and overturned furniture was the scene that greeted mikey when he had arrived at your café this morning
there was no sign of you anywhere, just a single note left on the counter that served as a declaration of war against bonten, but more specifically, its leader
mikey’s eyes darkened with anger as he quickly called the entirety of bonten and commanded them to save you
despite the initial confusion expressed by his executives, it didn’t take long before mikey’s orders were fulfilled, and you were soon safely brought to his penthouse in order to recover
holding your hand in his, mikey couldn’t stop the overwhelming guilt that he felt as he scanned your injuries
every bruise and cut on your body was because of him, and they mocked him for his inability to keep anyone in his life safe or happy
he had hurt too many people and ruined so many lives, yours now included
“i’m sorry. i’m sorry,” mikey would constantly repeat, his self-loathing thoughts only stopping once he noticed you beginning to wake up
“you’re awake,” mikey noted in surprise
“yeah. you have a lot of explaining to do, mikey,” you mused tiredly with a grin
“i will,” he promised, sending you a slight smile as you soon fell back asleep
once he was certain that you were sleeping, the smile immediately disappeared from mikey’s face before being replaced with a solemn look of determination
pressing a kiss to the top of your head, mikey quietly left the room and told the guard standing nearby to drive you home once you were properly awake
shooting you one last glance, mikey tried his best to memorize the image of you in his mind, saddened that this would be the last time he ever saw you again
“you also have a meeting next week in yokohama about some gun shipments,” takeomi informed as he read over the report in his hand
mikey only hummed in acknowledgement, his eyes scanning the busy streets of tokyo as the car came to a stop at a traffic light
four months had passed since mikey last saw you
he had kept his promise from that day, leaving you with a simple letter that explained who he was and why he couldn’t see you anymore
he knew that you deserved better than just a written explanation and an untraceable cheque to help with your café’s repairs, but mikey was selfish, and he was scared of your reaction once you knew who he truly was
he had also moved out of his luxury penthouse and gotten a new phone number, all in an effort to keep you at a distance
it was better this way, mikey would tell himself
“mikey?” takeomi asked with worry. “are you okay?”
“why wouldn’t i be?” mikey challenged
his advisor refrained from giving him an honest answer, choosing to simply sigh before resuming his report
as the car began to drive away, mikey happened to see a familiar figure carrying out a sign that highlighted the daily menu specials of the café it stood in front of
smiling to himself, mikey failed to notice the way you wistfully glanced around the street, almost as if waiting for someone
stepping back into the café, you put away the plate of dorayaki and cup of tea that you would prepare every morning in the hopes that a special someone would someday come back to you

mikey was ranked one of the top three worst boyfriends and husbands for a reason
he forgot dates, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
mikey didn’t even realize that he had forgotten your anniversary until he got home and saw you waiting for him with dinner on the table
you were wearing that black dress that he really liked and had even spent an hour working on your makeup
you refused to speak a word to mikey that night and slept with your back turned to him, which was how he knew that you were really angry
you woke up the next morning to the sound of the fire alarm ringing and the smell of burnt toast
“mikey, what are you doing?” you asked tiredly
with a nervous smile, mikey told you that he was trying to cook you breakfast as a form of apology for missing dinner and forgetting about your anniversary
although you were still angry at him, you could tell that mikey was being sincere, and you eventually forgave him
the following week, mikey took you out to your favourite restaurant for a proper anniversary date
ryuguji “draken” ken
draken only forgot about your anniversary because he was really busy with work
it was actually inui who reminded draken of his anniversary with you
“hey, draken. isn’t today your anniversary with your girlfriend?”
realizing that inui was right, on his way home, draken panickingly drove to the nearest flower shop and ordered their most expensive and extravagant bouquet
he also stopped by your favourite bakery and bought you your favourite dessert before hurrying home
“babe, i’m so sorry i forgot about our anniversary! you know that i’d never forget unless-”
“unless you were busy?” you guessed with a slight chuckle. “yeah, i kind of figured. no worries, i’m not angry or anything. we can go on a date this weekend or something”
hearing this, draken sighed in relief before giving over your bouquet and dessert
“babe, you’re the best,” was all that draken said before he kissed you
mitsuya takashi
impossible
mitsuya would never forget about your anniversary
but if he somehow did forget, he would immediately try to fix this problem
the moment you got home from work, mitsuya wished you a happy anniversary before telling you to get ready for dinner reservations
because everything was so last minute, he had called in a favour with the twins to book a table at their ramen shop
he told them to decorate the table to the best of their abilities, much to smiley’s annoyance
surprisingly, the table was beautifully decorated with flowers and string lights
your anniversary date went by perfectly, and you and mitsuya shared some mochi ice-cream for dessert while enjoying one another’s company
a few days later, mitsuya gifted you a handmade scarf as an anniversary present after he had remembered you talking about how cold it could get on your commute to work
