I hate her portrayal as a kind of damsel in distress that needs to be saved, totally takes away from her bravery and her whole development :(
So unbearably true unfortunately :(
This is my issue with Sansa in the show. They don't make her bad in any way, but they take away all her choices. All of them. I'm seriously irritated because they have somehow managed to give Sansa less agency and control of her life than in the books.
No going to Cersei to tell of Ned's plans, she'll just idly get captured
No refusal to kneel at her farce of a wedding
No plans with Dontos to escape
No nothing, she doesn't make any choices of her own
The showrunners are content to make Sansa a damsel in distress like you say. It's not like Sansa isn't a damsel who's distressed a lot in the books, it's just there's so much more to her going on, you know? Part of it is that we miss her internal monologues which give power to her character that nothing spoken or done could ever compare in my opinion.
The other part is that I think that D&D just don't care...? Like Arya and the fact that they don't care to keep her characterization (grief and trauma and fear and giving water to dying men) completely true, I don't think D&D care to allow Sansa be more proactive. It kind of feels like they don't want to use their limited lime that way, adding more scenes of nudity/Lannisters/Podrick Payne/Olenna Tyrell or whoever. They just remind you that she's sad and move on.
I'm disappointed to be honest.
