The "A" in ava was lost by being reanalyzed as the imperative: Á-ává (imp)--> Á-vá (imp)--> Vá (decl) Vá as a negative adverbial particle and áva- as the independent verb "refuse" (from the root AWA3) thus co-exist.

Sud-Comoé is one of the 19 regions of Côte d'Ivoire. The region's capital is Aboisso. Covering 6,250 km², its population (2002 est.) is 536,500.
The region is divided into four departments: Aboisso, Adiaké, Grand-Bassam and Tiapoum.
The region is virtually the same as the territory of the pre-colonial kingdom of Sanwi which as late as 1969 attempted to break away from Côte d'Ivoire and form an independent state. Which occurred only 9 years after the Independence of Côte d'Ivoire from former colonial power France. The current King of Sanwi is Nana Amon Ndoufou V (since 2002).
