i love the word sapatão, sapatona, sapata, wish i could use it when speaking english. it basically means dyke, but its not really used in a negative context that much. it is somewhat a slur, althought i think it would be more like the word 'queer' n not exacly a slur (in brazil we dont really have a word for slur or a way of saying it, just some words that have negative connotation) but like, most lesbians actually use that word more to refer to themselves than saying ''lesbian''. of course, ive been called sapatao in a negative way before, but it didnt bother me at all because for me it is a word that really defines my identity, and i think many other brazilian lesbians can agree. that word actually wasnt used to refer to lesbians at first, it was used as a negative word to feminist or women who wore ''men shoes'', shoe is sapato in portuguese. but it somehow started being used for lesbians.
