Sexy Spanish Rapier
Guess who's back~ I've been moving, and setting up, and questioning my gender but I have returned to you to give you unhinged information for you to quickly get into HEMA. Why do I keep harping on this? I'M BORED AND NEED MORE PEOPLE TO FENCE. As always TL;DR with free stuff at the bottom.
Look through rapier enough and you begin to fall into a hole of mystical magic circles where everyone talks in funny math in Spanish. They are posted up like the musketeers and move so smooth~ Welcome to Iberian/Spanish Rapier (La Verdadera Destreza, Destreza, LVD).
Main thing about this style is the pose and the magic circles:
The style is as interesting as it is fractured. Basically the creator posited some theories and his most famous student decided to hijack it and make it his and only his and if you don't do what I say you can't teach in Spain! So you start to get people in the same tradition really splitting hairs and calling each other bad at it. LET ME TEACH YOU THE EASY WAY BEFORE YOU GO A DIVING INTO MASTERS! Big name big researcher in the community is Puck Curtis, he made a flow chart of how to fence in the straight posture. Basically just stand balanced, arm pointing at the opponent, don't lunge and follow these directions exactly, ready?
Got that? Cool. Puck is less stuffy and traditional than a lot of masters of the craft and more follows the theory than the laws. Another guy is Ton Puey but you want to know Spanish for his more in depth lectures.
TL;DR Spanish Rapier is fractured but cool. If you want to learn a simple method, pick up this book and watch these people that follow the book.
Plenty of masters to follow but the big names to know are:
Rada - the most in depth guy (personally don't like em)
Viedma - a pragmatic guy
Thibault - the family weirdo who learned from the founder and went in a unique and exacting direction but damn is he SMOOV!

FYI - I also have the 'original' chapter titles i used in the outline and the previous chapter was called 'my new bestie' lol.
I think Max and David came about when i was writing lots of little fics for 'malec week' a long time ago and it started as i was thinking about max being older and having relationships and how being raised by a couple like malec must influenced his relationships.
David, on the other hand, really came to me because i wanted to write about this "good boy" (not perfect but he is good and he is kind) and we don't see a lot of male characters in books who are nurturing and kind and gentle and i wanted someone like that in one of my stories. someone who makes people feel loved and comforted and safe. he really evolved as i wrote more and more of him and to me he will always be my first oc :(
