well after end of time, in which simm!master and the doctor have more homoerotic subtext than ever and the master sacrifices himself to save the doctor, and after Dark Water, in which doctor/master finally drops decades of subtext and becomes explicitly romantic now that the master’s a woman, the doctor falls gives us a simm!master who apparently doesn’t give a fuck about the doctor and makes a load of gross misogynistic comments as if to emphasize that he is a Straight Man. while flirting with his female self.

I was so excited when we found out John Simm was coming back because I thought that after the more “acceptable” heterosexual-appearing doctor/master stuff, they’d take the step of letting the men explicitly flirt too. But nope apparently not. I really hope we get a female 13, and also that she gets to flirt with gomez!master, but it still feels a letdown because f/f and m/m relationships are viewed differently by society and. doctor who has made it clear it’s more okay with girls kissing than men flirting. like it kind of spoiled my enjoyment of bill getting to kiss a girl, when this is being written by a straight man who refuses to write simm!master hitting on the doctor, after the way rtd wrote him.
