Beach day Armalizamon!
The latest Digimon BeatBreak-Episode made me want to draw a "Digimon-Birth"-Scene with my Partner-Digimon Dorumon!
I made several Versions because I couldn't decide which would look better lmao
Can be viewed below the cut!
Some thoughts about Tomoro, the sapotamas, and his murderous impulse
I think probably the one thing that irritates me about the various takes is that people seem to be conflating two different things. Worse yet, sometimes they do it selectively.
One the one hand, yes, Tomoro affects a vague cool loner attitude. The exact reason for this is not clear. In the flashbacks, he does not appear to be already headed that way. We see various possible reasons, maybe it's a combination of all of them. In the music lesson, he's clearly bored out of his mind by material that's well below his knowledge level. He has been living in isolation with his brothers, and Asuka (who clearly knows something) or their lifestyle may have indirectly or directly severely curtailed his social life. The repeated incident with sapotama have led to him being ostracized, etc.
On the other hand, his attitude toward Sapotamas and AIs is, yes, openly dismissive and disdainful. Note here that when he says "AIs", he really means "Sapotamas". We have seen nothing anywhere to imply there are other relevant AIs for him to refer to, much less ones that are interact with through Sapotamas. However, this rejection is neither in a "I suspect they want to/may accidentally manipulate me somehow" nor in any other way that we reject Generative AI right now. It is certainly not fuelled by a need to isolate himself or as a demonstration that he is that cool and different. He's not a counter-trendy hipster.
No, these two aspects of him are, for the most part, unrelated. The flashbacks in episode make it VERY CLEAR that at some point Tomoro just made a very conscious decision to be as contrarian as he could toward Sapotamas. And the reason for that was that he blames them for ruining his life and becoming ostracized due to the constant glitches.
That is the source of his deep-seated distrust and constant antipathy he has toward digimon, who are born of the sapotamas and responsible for taking his brother from him. For all his loner behavior, Tomoro is almost autistic in his lack of self-reflection about the ultimate source of his tsundere behavior.
It's the culmination of all this (plus simmering guilt over what happened to Hitomi) that makes him order Gekkomon to kill Punimon. This is a complete reversal of his situation. It's not really about justice or what this digimon might do in the future. It's about how for once in his frickin' life, he can not only strike back, but do so with no risk. He has years and years of grievances that he can finally try and catharsize away. Of course he's going to jump on that chance.
"Beat Breaker" Myself in Beatbreak style with my Digimon in his first three forms:
Neolamon (Baby)
Molamon (In-Training)
Juvemon (Rookie) (pronounced 'yu-va-mon')
I am so sorry, Beatbreak fans...
I just cannot bring myself to watch the show. Not yet at least. I am sure the show has some fantastic moments, from what I can grasp scrolling through the Digimon tag here on tumblr. But I just by the life of me cannot with the lame, glowing egg, when we had amazing-looking Digivices in the past and we could have gotten a new great design in Beatbreak.
A little superficial? Perhaps. But when I watch a show, I want to enjoy it and not be constatly get thrown in my face designs which I don't like. Does the egg shape make sense? Maybe. But that doesn't change that it's lame as all hell. And yeah, I know that the Sapotama is a daily life device in Beatbreak, and as such, I wouldn't mind the egg shape. But I do mind a lot when it's also functioning as the season's Digivice. So yeah... I be skipping Beatbreak for now, as sad as it makes me. Maybe someday I will find the will and strenght in me to look past the design and watch the show. But that day is not now.
Oh, and just to say, the Digivice design isn't the only thing that's keeping me from watching Beatbreak. But a major contributor.
And sorry for this small tiny rant, but I just had to get it out.
Very convenient for Sapotama to have programmed the word "Digimon" on it's interface.
I have a theory that it's a technology developed by someone who knew about the Digital World, but the evil capitalistic CEO rebranded it and they blocked the digimons out of it. Notice the overall design and programming never changed since Tomoro was a little child
