One awesome thing I saw today besides mushrooms was this wildflower I have never seen before: pinesap or Dutchman’s pipe, a rarely encountered wildflower according to the internet. I was so exicited to find it! Identification by Jeff Ausmus aka @uswildflowers. Many thanks!

A really great example of saprophytic fungi! AKA one that grows by consuming decaying organic material...as you can see, this mushroom is growing straight from oak leaf litter. Mushrooms are typically either in three main ecological categories: saprophytic, mycorrhizal, or parasitic.
