SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police are asking for help finding a 16-year-old girl last seen a month ago, on June 12.

They say Sarah Combs was last seen that Wednesday in Southwest Philadelphia, on the 6700 block of Paschall Avenue.

She is described as 5’0″ tall, weighing 150 lbs., with a medium brown complexion, medium build, brown eyes and black hair.

Gloria is a little bit excentric, her best friend more of a typical high school student. They plan on going to college together but have to spend the summer apart first. Because Gloria got accepted into the local university’s scholarship programm she is spending the summer at “geek camp” on campus. Without any electronic gadgets and in a class of four people. Your regular coming-of-age story is enhanced by an scavenger hunt. The setting is timeless and gives you an out of the world feeling, a summer esccape that shows you the normally hidden sides of people and how to get to know them.

I was so exited about this book. I don’t remember how I first stumbled across it, but the cover had the right tiny amount of magical flair to catapult it to the top of my tbr. And the story holds up until the very end. Without being able to put a finger on the exact thing that ruins the ending for me, I just remember being immensly disappointed after reading the last pages. (It might have been to plain, taking away all the carefully built magic, now that I think about it. So if you’re into that kind of stuff, don’t let me stop you.) I would still read it again and recommend it to anyone asking, but I’ll definitely stop reading before the end.

And I haven’t even mentioned yet how perfectly the reading place went with the story. We were driving around, visiting our parents, and spend one night at a friend’s place. It’s an old farm (which helped a lot with the Kentucky feeling) with lots of different nooks and surprises. For some reason, I was usually awake long before any of my friends and spend the time reading and enjoying the quiet mornings (until I got to hungry and woke everyone for breakfast).
