The People of Pyrrupolis

Sarchitekta: The Architects. Not really a race in the way the others are, more like a sort of entity, extremely varied and self shaping and almost utterly without biology. They control the cities while they’re alive and build them as they die by a process called unfolding in an act referred to as retirement. Basically, they spend their lives building up their metallic innards, and when they die the outside of their bodies dissolves and those innards come flowing out and form huge elaborate structures that reflect what the sarchi believed they would become. Because theses structures have been used as cities for so long, Sarchi in pyrrupolis understand that when they “die” that is what will happen to them, so their remains look increasingly like urban architecture. 

Haruspers: The Every-men. chicken people with metal bones that are the most populous race (at least in the upper districts of the city) and the main source of city building material for the sarchi, who, as their beloved gods, treat them in with dignity ranging between “favorite pet” and “commercial broiler chicken”. Other animals have metal bones as well, but other animals can’t really worship and love their predators with the same devout complacency as the average harusper. 

Apart from that, haruspers have very strict gender roles and social norms that they fully, judgmentally expect their peers to conform too. Hens are plain and businesslike and roosters are violent sex objects, basically. 

Vuxte: The Sacred Vermin. I had these guys scrapped for a long time but recently dug them out of the trash to dust them off. There’s not a lot too them yet beyond being spooky predatory opossum-bat people that were domesticated in by the (and probably a specific individual) Sarchi the same way as haruspers were, for the purpose of keeping haruspers in check. dogs and pests, who needs em...

Ellyllo: The Artists. Strange, formless, and shy, they /survive/ by taking the form of another race (usually haruspers, less frequently azo, but it all depends on circumstance) and hiding among them for their day to day lives. They have several other faces they wear apart from these ‘glamours’, including a “true” face, designed to reflect their individual identities and be shown off to other ellyllo, and a “resting” face, lacking all those baubles and bits and worn when all alone, and maybe in the presence of a trusted friend. Probably the most developed race of the lot, i love these asshole deviantart closed species-lookin fucks......

Azo: Some spider ladies. The sapient members of the species are all female and the males are basically sex-mosquitoes who fertilize eggs with their sting then die. They lay eggs roughly once per month(?) that may or may not be fertilized, which hatch into tiny, independent larvae that require no real parental care and, if female, spend the next 5-7 years growing until they pupate into sub-adult “children”, which develop social inclinations for the first time in their lives and for little feral baby gangs. Azo society is pretty much the wild wild west.  

Possibly /employed/ by haruspers as cheap labor in some places, but heavily looked down on and exploited a wide variety of other ways. 

Nyxim: ...slime men.. sewer guys.. Born from the latent fear of an early sarchitekt that they were going to get ‘parasites’ from eating haruspers. they can secrete a powerful acid that lets them reshape the architecture at will. need moisture to live. eusocial with massive queens. really really underdeveloped sorry.

Split City stuff, four races that aren’t giant asshole metal demongods is a p sound number, i think? And then 2 drawings of Cupre’s,,, freaky nightmare city guts? Jesus Christ dude what the fuck

I dont want her to end up looking like a human lady at all but this vibe? This is a good cold regal vibe.

Also her character isn’t v developed atm but if u need a hint at what sort of (just lovely) person she is the resemblance her head has to a conquistador helmet is very intentional…

She’s very rigid! Not literally, of course, but in her way of thinking and feeling she's got very high, very specific standards and she’s extremely stubborn about adhering to them. She loves her districts and, ideally, would like the whole city to be so lovely! 

She’s very proud of how organized (yet ‘organic’) she’s polished her domain, especially Pohlapyrgos, to look. And she’s put as much, if not more, effort into pruning the aesthetic of the citizens. Her ‘Ulloan’ Haruspers are baisically Ornamental people. Bred by her like humans breed our pets, since thats how she veiws Haruspers. She cares much more about how they look than how they feel or how healthy they are which has some….. deeply unfortunate consequenses. She keeps her favorites (the ones she finds most beaitiful/interesting) close to her and treats them very well! Doesn’t mean she’s not an incredibly judgemental, subtly stressful person to be around, she just takes good care of her pets. They’re pampered.

She’s the sort to hook people up if she thinks they’d make pretty babies but get be angry and disgusted and just kill the kid when it turns out they’re severely anemic bc of her 'matchmaking’. And then she’d be upset like being unwell was something they did deliberately to make her cull them out of spite for her.

Also, unlike Cupre, who just eats whenever he’s hungry, she’d rather starve than destroy any of her beautiful perfect children. Except she's too proud to take advantage of the Arjincian harvests, so her diet is 95% comprised of the sick/elderly, & 5% of 'ugly’ welps she picks out from the comunal hatcheries. She also eats the old/sick/dying of her own Favorites, but she’s much more solemn/ceremonial about that, giving them the option and actually respecting them if they do say no, which they usually don’t becase they just love her so much and want to be there for her and nothing would make them more valuable in death than to become a part of their glorious Empress!

So, the species inhabiting Split City thusfar:

Sarchitekta: big freaky metal demon things, when they die they violently 'unfold' into new districts of the city. Very rare, very powerful, and very difficult to kill. Killing one is actually basically like, trying to 'murder' a walking nuclear powerplant to like, have fun "winning" that battle my dude....

Haruspers: the main inhabitants of the city! They're weird chicken people,... they have metal bones and toxic blood, which is a big reason why the Sarchitekta value them so much! Despite being ... people, they're treated more like pets or livestock. They're even Bred for aesthetically appealing traits by the appearance conscious Ulloa.

Ellyllo: shapeshifters that live amoungs other races. They're susceptible to the toxins of the Haruspers, yet survive better amongst them than the more perceptive Vuxte. Rumor has it there are cities of just Ellyllo somewhere out there, floating around in the Lovis desert, completely untethered by and independent of any Sarchitekta......

Vuxte: vampiric species that lurk around in the lower 'cold' districts. They are immune to the Haruspers' Poison, but unlike the other two species are very succeptible to Sarchitekta radiation, which is why they only live in the older parts of the city where the effects have all but faded. They deal with it about as well as humans deal with radiation....
