“Pasar Besar” (Big Market) Kota Bharu in the 1950s. This was one of the main hubs of trading in the city where Mok worked alongside her mother (my great-grandmother) at a food stall. This was also where she met her husband, my grandfather. She’d hire a rickshaw to get to and from the market, and Tok Ayah was one of the drivers. He’d just come from Selising, a rural village about half a day’s drive south of Kota Bharu, in search of better prospects and somehow landed a job as a rickshaw driver. I often pause at the thought of how, on one sunny day, Mok stood on the side ke the road and waved her hand at the many rickshaw drivers looking for fares and my grandfather happened to see her first. How differently things could have been had another driver noticed her first. . #hersarong #sarongstories #grandmother #history #memory #kotabharu #kelantan #malaysia #pasarbesar #blackandwhite #blackandwhitephoto #blackandwhitephotography #malaysianarchitecture #malaysianhistory #lovestory (at Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah dan Bazar Siti Aisyah) https://www.instagram.com/p/BrS_HOqBULp/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=jymo4pzebe17
