Saroon - Don’t Hold Back
Saroon is the primary songwriting outlet for lead singer and multi-instrumentalist, Ayal (Kelli Schaefer, Siren and the Sea, Elly Swope) whose genre melding style lives in the realm of Existential Psychedelic Soul music. Joined by A Walker Spring (Point Juncture, Wa, Bitch’n) on drums, Neal Wright (Wave Collector) on guitar, and Ethan Fox-Tucker (Siren and the Sea) on bass, Saroon creates long form records, woven together with cinematic soundscapes.
Don't Hold Back is the first song in a triptych dedicated to the Air around us. The swirling ambience of Neal Wright's guitar opens the piece and sets the scene for some of the most overtly personal lyrics in Saroon's repertoire. The song is a series of fragmented vignettes and self reflection, the gusts of harmony giving rise to a building momentum that peaks to answer the lament, "how you gonna know when you are gonna go?" with a joyous cascade of voices imploring, "don't hold back". The song represents what has become the essence of Saroon's sound; thoughtful and introspective lyricism, lush harmonies, and musical ideas that gain speed only to take a sudden twist with the wind.
