Released: 2015

A great artist named Tetsuzo lived during the Edo period. He has clients from all over Japan, but he doesn’t undertake his art alone. Of his four daughters, Tetsuzo’s third daughter is the most like him. While O-Ei inherited her father’s talent, she also carries his stubbornness and free-spirit. She would often paint in his stead, but she would always be unaccredited for it. And while Tetsuzo grew famous under the name Hokusai, O-Ei would always live in his shadow.

One of my favorite anime films. It follows the life of O-Ei, the daughter of the Japanese artist Hokusai, as she works in the studio of her father in Edo (now Tokyo). I love stories with eccentric characters. Big plus if it is a female character. Even bigger plus if it is a female character who likes to draw. ^^
