Thursday, March 27: Satan's Hallow, "Hot Passion"
One of the funnier developments over the past 10 or so years was the reappraisal of hair metal, particularly among thrash and extreme metal types: what was once considered a joke at best and more often a disgrace was now more likely to embraced, and not wholly ironically either. All of this created runway for a group like Satan’s Hallow to deliver something called “Hot Passion”, which nodded towards Lucifer-esque doom but had no small amount of early Mӧtley Crüe in its DNA. Mandy Martillo had a great rock and roll voice, balancing toughness with melody, which gave the Nikki Sixx-style riffing more weight, and the Chicago act demonstrated a firm command of their craft, making “Hot Passion” feel less like overt pastiche and more like a natural synthesis of influences.
