Surdas is now 80, his body adorns tattoos which are now fading under the harsh sun of his village in Chattisgarh. He recalls the two weeks when he was getting his full body tattooed with the traditional 'hand-poked' method, where ink is inserted beneath the skin using non-electrical, hand-made and hand held tools with needles of sharpened bamboo and steel.
