I have fallen down a rabbit hole and now I'm in desperate need of fics where Steve plays for the Savanah Bananas
I went to see the Savannah Bananas at Target Field this weekend. It's my second time seeing them, and the game is just as much fun as the antics. Here's the thing.
I love the Twins. They are my team. But I wish the owners would take note that the Bananas sold out Target Field all weekend, not just because of the novelty and the trick plays. But the Bananas' owners are committed to fans first.
And the Pohlads? I'd be surprised if they think of us at all. We're constantly, optimistically, "rebuilding" because the second players start to hit their stride, the minute the team starts to gel, they trade away as many players as they can and call up triple A guys from the Saints. It's... a strategy, I guess. Not a winning one. A cheap ass strategy.
I don't even bother learning players' names anyway beyond Buxton I guess. It's not that I don't want to go to Twins games. It's just expensive to do so, to watch them struggle so hard. It's expensive to watch them; I listen to them on the radio instead. When we found success, it was with small ball, not reliant on flash plays or players. But now it's hard even for that, because the turnover is constant.
When visiting a new city, the Bananas usually "call up" legacy players. Night one, Joe Mauer threw out the first pitch; Brian Dozier took an at bat. They were rusty, but the fans (me) went crazy. The Bananas have been making all kinds of tiktoks. They ate jucy lucys and took runs by our rivers and visited Minnehaha Falls. They all enthused about how great it is here, about Minnesota's baseball history (it runs deep here). I wish they had mentioned Toni Stone, who came of age in the Rondo neighborhood. I feel, as a fan, seen, respected, loved even. They loved playing at TF, a genuinely great space.
Fans first. Take note, Pohlads.
I’m so excited for this. Not great seats, but it’ll be fun nonetheless.
Feeling very normal and cool and most of all very respectful about this picture.
Just a quick comic inspired by this Savanah Bananas video…

This looks fucking fantastic and crazy! I would travel to go see this!
Seriously, I know this looks like baseball. But even if you don't like sports, check this out. It's crazy, and wild. It's more like a circus then a ball game.
If I ever get rich enough to own a sports team, I'm gonna bring Banana Ball to New England and call them the Boston Chowdah
