Hi everyone! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Darion. It's very nice to meet you. I have a 6 year old golden retriever named Rudy. I have had Rudy since he was 8 weeks old. Since the day I laid eyes on his cute little face, he has been my absolute best friend, and after being diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and minor PTSD about 2 1/2 years ago, he has been my emotional support animal. Unfortunately, Rudy was recently diagnosed with an osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and our best option was to amputate the infected leg and start with chemotherapy. (His full story is on the gofundme page if you're interested to read about it!) Unfortunately, chemotherapy is extremely expensive. I am reaching out in hopes that I could get some help to give my pup the fullest and happiest life he can have. Absolutely any sort of donation helps, even if it is just $5. RUDY UPDATE

This has been hard and it’s not going too well as we speak. Rudy is still at said pet store, but luckily was moved to the right sized cage because they had sold another bird. This only means he will be a bit happier until we get him. 

Whn we attempted to go in to buy him last week they did not like us very well and would not budge with the price, so we will have a friend go in alone to try to buy him. We promise we are still trying and the money is not going to waste, Rudy will be ltaken out of there, and we hope by this wee. We knew this would be the hardest part, but we will keep you all posted!

Rudy update #3

(quick summary for those just now joining us: Rudy is a harlequin macaw we will be rescuing from a disgusting pet shop where he is stuffed into a conure sized cage with no enrichments, and a seed diet covered in bugs. He plucks his feathers because of his anxiety and horrible condition, and is very afraid of humans. He strikes at the cage whenever a new person walks by and pin his eyes {a sign of aggression in birds}. He is very sick, we suspect an upper respiratory, and he has never been to a vet. He is 8 years old so says the owner, and has been with them since they raised him from the egg. He has suffered in this state for EIGHT YEARS. He has never had a true home and, tomorrow he finally will! )

Wow how time has flown by.. We want to start this off by saying we are so proud of the birblr community for making this happen! Rudy will finally be in good hands tomorrow evening. 

We have prepared the best we could, and he will be in quarantine for a few months and will be getting a vets attention in a few weeks! We went to the farmers market to get some AMAZING veggies and fruits for all of our birds, and Rudy too! Rudy has never eaten a vegetable or fruit EVER, and he will be so happy and healthy when he finally realizes how good they are every morning! 

We also got some untreated wood and cut, dyed, and sanded them down to make some epic bird toys! We have put some together today and Rudy will be getting first picks (: He, unfortunately will need to be in quarantine alone in the basement of the rescue house. He will not be able to see the other birds, but will hear them for sure for the first while, but we will move him up to the big bird room as soon as the vet says he’s all clear! It will be weird for him to go from being surrounded by birds to only being able to hear them.. but we think it will be best given his situation.

We will be going to the pet-shop tomorrow evening to get him, and we will take pictures and video’s galore to share with you all tomorrow night. I will uncover the horrible-ness of this dump and we can hopefully get it shut down afterwards. 

We also would like to start a blog somehow for the Papayago Rescue House and for Rudy in general just to share the birds stories and hopefully help people understand what we’re doing and why! If you can create a website/blog for us that would be awesome because we have no idea how to.. XD

Rudy update #2!

Hello again everyone.. this time I bear great news for Rudy! We are getting him Monday! Thanks to all of you here on Tumblr and a few outside sources, we have raise enough money for him, a brand new, MACAW SIZED cage, and most of his initial vet visit! 

All of us at the Papayago rescue thank you and hope you feel as great as we do! Prepare yourself for a load of pictures and videos on Monday evening when we plan to go get him and settle him down in his new cage! His vet visit is scheduled for a few weeks ahead and until then he will get lots of veggies, love, and hopefully some training in there. 

Rudy has come a long way in his 8 years of life and we hope he goes a long way in the future and gets a very nice home! We could not have done this without you!! 

Our next step of action is to get this pet store SHUT DOWN! Rudy should not be the only bird we save, we want to help save them all in some way. After Rudy is home, we will start to encourage all of you to report this place, and leave bad reviews for potential new customers.. This will be hard for the place to get shut down as explained in my most recent post, but we can do it together! If we can save Rudy, we can save them all! 

(If they get shut down not all of the birds will come to Papayago, but to other places and people so we hope in a way to ‘rescue’ them by just shutting it down)

P.S. I also made a snapchat for documenting Rudy’s rescue and his life afterwards! We urge you to add us @ RescueRudy ! We will be posting videos and pictures of mainly Rudy, but also other birds at the rescue and everywhere we go! We will be documenting Monday night this way!

!!!ATTENTION BIRD LOVERS!!! Please help us save Rudy from this horrible place! Please read this info below and see if you can help out in any way! Rudy is an 8 year old harlequin macaw. He has never been to a vet and he is most likely sick from what I've seen. He is stuffed into this tiny cage fit for a caique or a conure. He is not a small macaw. His beak if very cracked and dirty, from malnutrition. He is given only seeds, which usually have bugs in them, and no veggies or fruits. He is harassed and poked at by other workers and customers at this shop he lives in. He was bought by a man 7 years ago, and was returned promptly with many behavioral issues and problems. Nobody will get him out of his cage because of his attitude and overall sacredness of humans. He is NOT mean or aggressive, just scared. He and I have been working together for several months and he LOVES to be pet through his cage, but won't let me get closer once I let him out. I try to let him wander the outside of his cage every time I go in, which is unfortunately only once a week for only an hour. He won't let me pick him up and really gets scared if i approach him with my arm or open hand. He really needs more work and more people to love on him. He plucks his legs, chest, and wings because of how uncomfortable he is and probably how sick. You can hear the mucus in his nose when be breaths. He needs a vet which will cost probably upwards of 300$, but first we need to get him out of there and to a rescue. I have been teaming up with the Papayago Rescue a little north of Atlanta Georgia, and they said if we can get the money they will take him. He is $900 but I think if we show $700 cash they will give him up. He has been sitting in that locked cage for EIGHT YEARS! Nobody takes him out, nobody plays with him, nobody cleans his cage except for me. Look how bad it is in this picture! There is a very large cage available at the Papayago rescue, but we will need toys and perches as well. If you have large bird toys and can donate some please please message me! We will also need food donations too. This rescue had 7 macaws they are taking care of already. They run off of donations for taking care of all 32 birds they have and a macaw defiantly isn't cheap. We need to help this bird and get him fresh veggies and love EVERY SINGLE DAY of his beautiful life. He is still young and he can be saved!
