It wouldn’t be fair not to give a round of applause and a thank you to the #savethe8th campaigners. When all is said and done, they ran an excellent campaign that really highlighted just how ridiculous (& unmannerly) anti-choice ideology is.

Casual Reminder you have until May 8th (2 weeks) to register to vote for the up and coming referendum on the 8th Amendment, regarding the right to life of the unborn / the  regulation of termination of pregnancy. Even if you don't have an opinion or on the fence regarding the referendum, I would recommend getting registered anyway just to have it done.

If you don't know if you've registered yet, you can check here

Be sure to search by your townland if you can't find your name by searching your Eircode, as if you didn't register with your Eircode, it won't have you saved under your Eircode. Also be sure to search under the address you're going to be on polling day, as you can only vote in that district.

If you find you are not registered to vote, despite being of age, you need to fill out this form.

If you are registered, just not at the address you are currently staying at and will be staying at on the day of the referendum, then you need to fill out this form.

You need to get these checked out by a member of the Gardaí, who will also need to see an ID, and post it or bring it to your local authority, county council, or city council, the details of which can be found here.

There is an option for postal voting if you're too busy due to work, study, disability, or legal obligation. However the deadline for application for postal voting has passed so, sorry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Polling stations will open from 7am to 10pm on 25th May. Bring ID. No photography or political paraphernalia allowed.

You will be asked, "Do you approve of the proposal to amend the Constitution contained in the undermentioned Bill? "Thirty-sixth Amendment of the Constitution Bill 2018." and you will place a tick in either Tá/Yes or Níl/No. Or spoil your vote idk. You do you. (Just please spoil your vote before you don't vote at all. At least then it shows you're not throwing away your vote out of laziness, but out of feeling disenfranchised.) The constitution is important because while any law may be changed by the Oireachtas, If challenged, any law may be declared invalid by the courts if it conflicts with the Constitution. A NO vote would keep the 8th Amendment in place as it is, which reads, "The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right." Laws may be passed to provide for the termination of pregnancy only where there is a real and substantial risk to the life of the mother including the risk of suicide. This is what we know as the Pro-Life vote. A YES vote would replace the wording of the 8th Amendment above to, "Provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancies.” This will allow the Oireachtas to pass laws regulating the termination of pregnancy. These laws need not limit the availability of termination to circumstances where there is a real and substantial risk to the life of the mother. This is what we know as the Pro-Choice vote.

Remember that no one changes their minds in an instant. You're not going to change one person's mind in an argument at the dinner table and you definitely aren't going to change their minds online. If the discussion is getting too heated, it is OK to step out and take a breather.

Relish in the fact that you have the ability to vote and be heard, rather than hating on those who make a decision opposed to your own.
