I've said emo managed to capture the zeitgeist of the late 90's and the early noughts, but not all the musicians of the idiom got to enjoy their genre's success. Jawbreaker, for instance, made many great albums during the 90's, but they disbanded themselves before their style became mainstream. Then again, they may have shot themselves in a foot with their major label debut, Dear You. Of course, this shouldn't be seen as a criticism of the quality of the record, I see the LP as a transitional one to whatever their next one might be, this merely provides the context for the reception of the latter. Jawbreaker basically broke the ground for their followers, yet they, paradoxically, weren't allowed to be as commercial as those that consider them to be their mentors.
