And, when I say that wrestling is bad, it's really bad. Here's an example.
There's a reality show called "Total Divas". starring the shittiest women in the WWE. On that show, Natayla painted a picture for Nikki of Nikki and her husband, and it was really bad of a painting.
Thus, Nikki (who is the face) fought Natayla (who is the heel) while all the other total Divas held up signs with numbers on them for reasons not explained. Eva Marie was one of the women holding up signs (and held up one sign backwards, a legit fuckup that went unacknowledged)
Nikki won, and all the Divas pointed at Natayla and laughed at her for trying to paint (remember, Natayla is the bad guy here). But they have to keep the storyline going. So, on last night's Smackdown, they had a rematch, with Eva Marie as the ref. Because getting your friend to ref your match for you is totally what good guys do.
I don’t normally say this (I usually say the opposite!), but listen to the WWE commentary here
JBL: Eva’s a lot better as a referee than she is at those cards she was holding up grading them Monday night. Cole: Yeah, that was a debacle. Uh, the cadence was a bit off on the count by the referee.. JBL: I think she loses count. Three is a high number, maggul.
Or, perhaps more tellingly, JBL literal sputtering incoherence followed up with a “COUNT!” when Eva Marie fails to notice Natayla is pinned, requiring Nikki to scoot up and make it as obvious as possible, just in case you thought this was some kind of “Wow Eva Marie fucks up a lot” story line. No, she’s really just being given increasingly simple tasks and failing at them.
Literally, her ONE job was to hit the mat three times, and she fucked it up twice in one minute. What’s the point of filling the development show with talented woman wrestlers, bringing up Paige and making her champion, and giving Alicia Fox cool stuff to do while we wait for AJ Lee to come back, if every other women’s match is like this because half the roster is literally composed of underwear models with no training?
Everything about this storyline, from concept to execution, is so goddamn incompetent that it's damaging other, better storylines.
