Rewatching S3 a second time before I move to S4, I noticed something I missed the first time in episode The Return, Part 1. Namely, the placement of Sheppard's model planes! Two of them are on his work laptop! One on a binder, but clearly no work is being done. Why are they there?

Theory 1: Sheppard plucked all of his plane models off their usual spot and brought them to his desk so he has something to fidget with during his phone call with McKay. Unclear if he did so during the call, off-camera, or if he prepared his little planes before the call started.

Theory 2: That computer never gets used, so Sheppard just kinda leaves his plane on top of it. When he needs to pretend to be busy at his desk, he got the planes to play with! Wee!

Additional questions:

Are the planes his?

Did he bring them back from Antarctica?

Did he get them during the weeks on Earth not shown in the episode?

Are they a gift?

Did they come with the office?

What happened to the planes once the team went back to Atlantis?

Could McKay and anyone else hear Sheppard make little plane noises during their calls?
