The Warehouse Fundraiser Update

Indie all ages, no alcohol venue The Warehouse in La Crosse, Wi still needs your help! Check out this update from www.warehouserocks.com and help keep this amazing venue alive. Every little bit helps. I sure hope we get to see what kind of cool things this organization can do as a non-profit.

FUNDRAISER UPDATE:

DEAF EAR RECORDS here in La Crosse generously matched $5000 worth of individual donations with a $5000 donation of their own last week. A donor from Minnesota who wishes to remain anonymous has come forward to match the next $5000 in donations. When the contributons hit $26,075, he’ll kick in $5000, taking the total to $31,075. ALL OF THIS IS CRUCIAL. The bank has extended the time to raise money to resolve the back property taxes, mortgage, and past due bills. So we are effectively in the same position as a couple months ago, with the fundraiser a CRUCIAL part in the survival of the Warehouse. There is a deadline of the first week in October to get back the same amount that was originally contributed but returned by IndieGoGo when the goal was not met ($62,446). A secondary deadline of October 17 is to get the amount to $100,000. Focus here has been on doing a number of things to encourage the contributions, including making all of the previous pledge rewards available (see the panel to the right!) so that if you want to receive something in exchange for helping, you’re got that option. There are some great items, like the limited edition 18x24 silkscreen glow-in-the-dark print of the Warehouse from Rochambo Studios in Minneapolis, some great shirt designs, and some tasty cookies. But any amount can be contributed and is appreciated.  ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES: We have created a Board of Directors for a 501c3 organization that will eventually take over managerial duties at the Warehouse. We are restructuring into a non-profit organization that will allow much more flexibility in activities at the Warehouse, as well as funding. It is an exciting time here. So much financial pressure and so close to the edge, yet so much positive energy. The Warehouse will become much more community oriented once we get through this financial crisis.  FUNDRAISING EVENTS: Several concerts, an auction of donated items, a tattoo-a-thon, a bake sale, and other events are being planned for the near future to further supplement cashflow.  TOUR: Warehouse will be part of Historic Downtown La Crosse Day on Saturday October 12, and we will be giving tours of the building from 11am-5pm. A great time for anyone unfamiliar with the Warehouse to see the place, and for regulars to see The Warehouse in the daylight!

"There’s a certain venue in La Crosse, WI called the Warehouse. It’s been doing shows for what, 22 years now? It’s a safe place for all of the kids and teens who live here to go to listen to music, completely alcohol and drug free…and they are massively in debt and soon, if they don’t generate enough revenue to pay the banks it will be closed and turned into condos. The Warehouse isn’t just a special place for me, it’s a safehaven and sanctuary for so many La Crosse kids and peace of mind for so many parents there when all they need is to know their kids are somewhere safe, and not shooting up in a back alley. The Warehouse has led to marriages, more friendships than I can even count, has changed peoples lives and generally effected so many people and the community in general in an extremely positive way. Not to mention, bands like Fall Out Boy had their start there. NIN, MCR, tons of huge names in metal and plenty of other genres alike have been through there. Without it I don’t know what the kids in La Crosse will do or where they will go. I’m worried for the younger generations now and the future ones to come. Without this place there will be a lot less people who get into local music or even music in general seeing as most people don’t want to make a 3+ hour drive to Milwaukee. Art will die in that sense or at least start to. One of if not the only no alcohol venues in WI will be closed and that sanctuary and peace of mind for parents will be gone. Less lives will be touched and changed and blessed with music and the passion and love I feel now because of it.

Today, the Warehouse's bankers took mercy on the all ages venue. They were completely blown away by the amount of support this little business in La Crosse, Wisconsin received over the past two months. So they've given the Warehouse a reprieve. There's still a long way to go, however, and there are a lot of bills that need to be paid.

There's this place 30 minutes away from where I'm from called The Warehouse. It's one of America's longest running alcohol free, safe venues for local, regional, and national bands. Many famous bands have played this venue. For example, Volumes, Memphis Mayfire, and Fallout Boy. The Warehouse is in a lot of debt and we are trying to raise money. There are a lot of people that care about this place so much. You meet great people and you see many great bands. It's cheap to get in and safe. There are many bars around the area of this place, but it's the only alcohol free venue. The closest one to us is hours away. I love this place dearly and there isn't much time left, literally hours. But any donation helps. If we don't make our goal, you get every penny you donate back. There are cool things you can get if you donate aswell, like a limmited edition save the warehouse tee shirt, or for the bigger donations, your name on one of the famous 49 steps. This venue’s one of the most important places for independant bands in the country and has been for over 20 years. Chemlab played there more times than I can count, mis-spending much of our fabled youth there rocking out and freaking out under the graces of Stephen Harm and his coterie of incredibly supportive and hungry-for-action employees like Nick Wilhelmy, and enjoying the sick pleasures of some excellent local disturbed noise like Zero Dark 30 (who never got the exposure they deserved, of course). We were always greeted on the street by a band of kids ready, snow or sweat, to hump our ridiculously heavy gear with us up every band’s arch nemesis: those endless fucking flights of eye-wateringly near-vertical stairs. The stage is wide and deep and not too high so I could always caress the glory faces that I’d soon be screaming in, steal people’s cigarettes and dance with total abandon in and amongst the audience knowing that I was in a place that “got” us. The Warehouse, Steve and Co. dug us from very early on, and it was one of the places that did so long before most other places outside the Midwest. The Midwest was years ahead of the rest of the country in swallowing everything we had to deliver, and so we spent a lot of time playing in places like the Warehouse and the Lizard Lounge in Grande Rapids. That a place like this, that’s supportive of the local scene, alcohol-free and hungry to keep doing what it’s been doing for years is in danger is Art Crime.
