Hey everyone!

I'm new to Tumblr- but wanted to share the first episode of my new podcast, "Mage With a Mic". It's a silly goofy podcast that is perfect for fans of Terry Pratchett, The Magnus Archives, and just fantasy stories in general.

I created the brand behind Mage With a Mic, MorrowForge, after I was made redundant in February of this year. I have such exciting plans for MorrowForge going forward- namely being able to be a haven for queer and neurodivergent people like myself to express themselves and have a channel to promote (and earn from) their creative work.

Another series I just finished, called The Warehouse by Killer Whale.

The main character, Dohyun, has often been dwelling on how happy he was back in high school and wishes he could go back to those days. He's frustrated with his current life. Then one day, he gets kidnapped. The guy who kidnapped him, named Sungho, keeps telling him to "remember". More confusing is he keeps throwing Dohyun into a warehouse he made that looks like a high school sports equipment storage.

So... I liked about 2/3rds of this story. The tension of Dohyun trying to figure out ways to escape and putting up with this stony faced psychopath makes a good story. It's the last part that I don't really like. While I was reading it, I kept thinking "oh please, don't go in that direction", and... it did. I'm going to put a rant with spoilers further down.

So rating: 6.5/10. It's honestly the ending that hits it so hard. If it ended differently (or at certain parts), then this would probably be 7.5-8. *trigger warning that there is rape and abuse in this series, so this isn't a series for everyone). So yeah... 6.5 just because of the ending.

*spoiler rant*

The ending really pissed me off. Dohyun does escape, but he and Sungho wind up living together. Screams of Stockholm Syndrome, honestly. I jokingly calling Killing Stalking the series "a serial killer and his Stockholm Syndrome boyfriend", but obviously Killing Stalking is more complex than that. This? Dohyun is the Stockholm Syndrome boyfriend.

There's several parts where I thought it was going to end, where it would have been better, but it didn't. There's a part where Dohyun finally snaps and tells Sungho to kill himself, so he goes off a tries to kill himself. Dohyun freaks out about it and gets Sungho rushed to the hospital, then drowns in the guilt that he may have caused someone's suicide. Sungho lives, then there's part when Dohyun shows up in his hospital room and shouts to him "don't ever come here again". That still wasn't the ending. No, they wind up together as a couple to "start over".

Sungho kidnapped and raped Dohyun several times. He beat Dohyun and even strangled him until he passed out once. Dohyun even goes catatonic for a while, wondering why his life seems to be a perpetual cycle of misery. That's why I say this was a Stockholm Syndrome ending. Killing Stalking at least had the balls to keep it miserable for 95% of the series, and ended just as miserably.

This ending really, REALLY hurt it for me. I don't understand how this story of "first love" that twisted into obsession and straight up abuse can end with "let's start over". It's fucked up, not happy. Not cute. Sungho was so obsessed, it was 10 years since everything happened. 10 fucking years. The ending is just so goddamn frustrating...
