Disclaimer: My knowledge of DC is limited to movies and a few comics here and there, this review will be solely based on my knowledge of rps.
First thing I notice:
Can I say how much I really love your theme? While I usually tell roleplay to have more colors in their schemes, this one fits perfectly. It's simple and clean as is the description. And you have a plotting board! I'm very excited to see what's beyond the first page.
Aesthetic
While the color scheme and theme are fine just the way they are, I would consider changing the header. It doesn't really match at all with the rest of the colors, not even has the same font. I really recommend changing it.
Plot
First of all, the seasons idea is so great, it feels like your writing a television show. I love how the plot has developed and I feel like you're gearing up to a huge climax (season 3 maybe?) but I can't seem to find the plot for season one? Is it in the Gotham Timeline (which is awesome by the way). It seems the plot has been strong enough to make TWO news and gossip blogs, a MAFIA OVERVIEW. One complaint, the "previously" tag is great, but maybe you could add it all to one page? Just a suggestion here, its not that necessary.
Bios/Characters
One thing that irks me about roleplays is that they include one or two poc fcs and a gay guy and pass it off as diversity. You guys didn't do that. In fact, you guy almost have more poc than white people in your rp, and a lot of different ethnicity and races to boot! As an rph, this is like heaven. The bios aren't extremely long but they give just enough information for you to develop your character, and your graphics are very simple, clean and well made!
Admin
The first thing I noticed is that the players seem so immersed in the roleplay and the admins! You even post relevant quotes from the players to the main, it feels so inviting and warm. I like how you, the admins, manage to sound professional yet so welcome to new players. I have absolutely no complaints, the roleplay seems very well thought out.
Rating
FIVE OUR OF FIVE. The complaints I made are just about the aesthetic, I'm actually surprised you don't have more players. This rp deserves a lot more. I'm in awe. If only I had more time I would join as static.... sighs.
Gotham City is known for playing dirty, but recently, someone's been muddying the already murky waters. When an unknown assassin begins targeting vigilantes with poorly kept secret identities, the unforgiving tension between heroes, villains, and police boils to an all time high.
But things aren't always as they seem. As clues and motivations unravel, are the Gotham's people ready to face the threat?
Please note that these critiques are meant to help and not insult. It was never my intention to be rude. If you have read this, like/reblog the post. If you have any more questions, I'll be willing to help in the best I could!
first impressions -- the url, theme, and overall look of the rp
The url itself catches attention and already gives off the idea that the rp is set in some kind of city, and I click on the page and I sigh in relief. Batman! People who love comic books will definitely want to stay. The theme itself is neat and simple, but it works. I love the color scheme, as well. It sets the mood that Gotham is currently going through dark times. This looks great and I can't really say I have any critique on the theme because I think it works perfectly for your roleplay. Even the page themes are great and flow with the main theme.
the story itself -- the side as well as full plot and other things about the roleplay
The side bar plot is intriguing. I like it and it definitely adds mystery and excitement to the plot. You've given just enough information to keep people's attentions and still leave them wanting more. The plot is amazing. I have absolutely nothing to say. It's just one of those really well-written, exciting plots that promises a lot of action and interaction between all the members. It's hard to make a plot that involves a named character, because some people would think "Is this character going to be the focus of it all now?" But you managed to pull it off by not making it entirely about them. The plot is also a perfect length, it's straight-forward and yet still detailed. Now, I don't really follow comic books, but this makes me want to join the roleplay, and I'm glad that you've given potential applications who may not know so much about the DC Universe the needed resources like the time line and the 'About Gotham' page. I also love the other pages, like the Gazette and the Radio.
the laws and their enforcers -- otherwise known as the rules and admins
The admins come off as professional yet still approachable. And it's so considerate of you guys to add other pages such as a roleplaying dictionary and the 'Getting Over Your Insecurities' and 'On Putting Yourself Out There' page. It just shows how much you care for all your members, even the ones who are new to roleplaying and you have set up a welcoming environment, and I really wish more admins were as dedicated as you who really focuses on making sure that their members have the best roleplaying experience. The rules page covers the basics and more. The activity requirements are reasonable, and personally, I love that you challenge future members to go with "Deep Third Person POV" (Which is my favorite POV, by the way.) which offers a chance for writers to let out their creativity.
the important pieces -- the characters
Those characters are great! I love how diverse the whole cast is and I'm sure from this diverse cast, you offer up a lot of choices. Also, you offer characters that are new to Gotham that new roleplayers can pick up on. The bios are wonderfully written and are perfect length. It gives all the needed information while still leaving room for the applicants to make the characters their own.
the pretty pictures -- the graphics, sidebar, icons, etc.
The top banner is simple, but it works for the overall look. It gives visual appeal without taking the attention away from the content. When it comes to the character graphics, they're beautiful. The color scheme works well on the main page and the other page graphics all look great. The icon is universally recognizable, and I'm sure anyone who already knows what the DCU universe is will recognize that icon and know what it's about, while others who are unfamiliar with it will still know what to expect. You've done a great job.
This roleplay is incredibly well done! Flawless, I should say. It offers up so many opportunities and yet still maintains a welcoming and friendly environment for people who enjoy writing quality paras, and even those new to roleplaying or new to the DCU can join because the admins have done a marvelous job of giving all the needed information. I feel bad that the critiques I made were short, but honestly, it's already such a wonderful roleplay and I cannot find anything wrong with it. I hope this goes far and stays for a long time. The RP community needs more roleplays like this. Good luck with everything!
Hey there! I was wondering if we could please have a full review for Savethiscity-rp? (It's a sideblog otherwise I would ask from the account-- I am one of the admins (Casey)). I definitely understand if you don't have time right now or can't do it, but thank you regardless!
