How would you rank the SBob movies (including for Netflix)?
1. The Spongebob Squarepants movie and Sponge out of water
They're tied for #1 because they are both very special to me in different ways. The first movie was absolutely perfect in every way in terms of being a spongebob movie. I had so much fun watching it over and over again as a child. SOOW is special to me because it was somewhat of a revival to the show after so many years of lackluster seasons that I fell out of love with the show. It's not perfect but it was genuinely fun and meant the world to me since my teenage years were awful. It remains a sincere comfort to me that its as important to me as the first movie. Not a critical opinion but whatever. I do like we get to see more of the other spongebob characters get screentime over the first movie.
I actually am a bit stumped about how I am going to categorize the rest because I feel like my liking of them feel unlinear. I wouldn't know what to put as number 2 because I want something that is really good up here but not absolutely perfect. We are skipping to number 3
3. Sponge on the Run, Search for Squarepants, The Plankton movie.
I had a lot of fun watching Sponge on the Run. I think being stuck at home for the pandemic for so long and being the only few people who got to see it in theaters in Canada really contributed to why I had such a good time. I was surprised when the movie came out on Netflix and everyone hated on it. It was mostly due to misinformation due to Kamp Koral and the spinoffs. I think it was massively overblown but I can admit this movie is lacking from a critical standpoint. It definitively suffered from executive meddling and so many rewrites. It was in production since right after SOOW cam out!! For all it's flaws, I still remember it fondly.
Search for Squarepants. I originally didn't give it a positive review. I didn't hate it by any means but I wasn't impressed by it. Seasonal depression really hits me hard, I feel like I did not enjoy the movie properly which was why I deleted my original review. I did see it a second time in theaters and I did enjoy it more that time around. I still stick to my opinion that it does not impres me. I know Spongebob fans online really love it. I felt kind of broken because why couldn't I enjoy it as much as them?
It's fun for what it is but it does feel more like just a kids movie. Which at my big age of 25 should not be complaining about. It does what it supposed to do and I guess if you want a straight forward comedy adventure movie then it does just that well. I don't know why but I wish there was more to it.
They are having a family movie screening for it this Saturday so I will probably do that. It will be my 3rd time seeing it in theaters hehe :3
Learning that this movie was originally suppoded to be a mini series about Mr. Krabs and his relationship to Spongebob was really interesting to me. I do wish we got more of the personal emotional side of their relationship like that.
I really like Plankton the movie! It was a lot of fun. It was more of a TV movie (obviously). I love seeing Karen center stage in this movie and being an unapologetic villain. Plankton is such a failure of a husband which is funny to see. His adventure with Spongebob feels like a discount Sponge out of Water. The only flaw of this movie is Karen taking Plankton back lol but other than that, I highly recommend it.
5. Saving Bikini Bottom - The Sandy movie
I legitimately disliked this movie which is rare for me when it comes to Spongebob properties. I did not laugh, the cgi is ugly. Over textured like Sponge on the run but lower budget. It looks offputting at times. It's jokes never land and honestly feel like generic modern kids movie jokes. Especially spongebob crying about his streaming subscriptions.
I think it would have been an okay movie at least if it stuck to being fully animated. I don't dislike Sandy's family. But what made me dislike this movie was its live action portions. They were absolutely unbearable to sit through. Unfunny, slow, and I'd hate to use the word cringy but I just couldn't sit through it.
I may be biased though since I've always dislike live action kids shows,but I could not stand the villain of this movie or Sandy's human scientist friends. They were the most unbearable part of the movie.
I wish I could like this movie. Sandy absolutely deserved her own movie after being shafted so often on the show to the point where the crew don't know what to do with her because they deemed her as funny. This movie should have been her time to shine but I just could not get behind it.
It did well with kids and I guess that's all that really matters.
I also find it worth noting that this movie was written by folks who did not regularly write for the show or any kids media for that matter. I think that explains a lot.
Kinda off topic but I think is funny that I remember seeing an animatic for this movie in 2021ish? On youtube. The scene where spongebob gets split into a million mini spongebobs. I thought it was someone's fan animatic. It felt like someone's fanfiction au (I don't mean that in derogatory way, that's just really what I thought of it). I was surprised that it was from this movie back when I was watching the Sandy movie for the first time. Virtually unchanged to the final product.
All in all those are my thoughts off the top of my head. Not exactly a proper ranking and completely missing anything for number 2 but I enjoyed rambling about the spongebob movies.
I find I can't properly rank these things from a critical standpoint and nothing really has that wow factor but not perfect to get that number 2 spot. There are some movies I like equally and don't do enough to make me like one more than the other.
Very messy but I hope you get something out of this at least.

I think that he would be a good father. I don't know if Sandy likes to take care of children. But at least she hadnt to comfort Squidward because SpongeBob was around to help her. And knowing that he was Squidward babysitter another past episodes, thats why he knows how calm him down XD
⚠️ SPOILERS ⚠️ the part where Spongebob says "sausage boy" is a random reference of a little part of Sandy Cheeks movie, where Spongebob is eating a sausage, and then reminds Squidward face. LMAO 💀

Around that morning, I saw Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, the first installment in the SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off film series on Netflix. I'm giving this at 10/10.
Even for my props to one of my voice acting idols, @greydelislegriffin as Ma and Granny Cheeks in the movie.
