What is the stonks meme, and what can it teach us about the actual stock market, personal finance, index funds and Jack Bogle's philosophy? Lots, actually!
Today I learned more about stonks.

$$$ Vegetarianism $$$
Meat is one of the most expensive raw ingredients you’ll buy regularly. Most raw meats are even a health hazard, requiring proper temperatures and cooking soon after buying unless frozen. And what’s more, you don’t need it.
I doubt I’m the first to say, meat is delicious when cooked well. To many Americans, it’s a dietary staple as necessary as salt and pepper. This gives the impression that most vegetarian meals are bland or tasteless, little more than salads. But as seen from a nutrition standpoint, it can be easily avoided and some people claim it’s even healthier to be vegetarian.
Now, I’m not going to preach at you to give up meat because that’s stupid. Meat is delicious, basically an instant flavor enhancer, but it’s one that sets your wallet on fire. I absolutely won’t even suggest you go full vegetarian because frankly, you’d be giving up more than I’d consider worthwhile. Rather, meat should be treated as a seasoning, something you sprinkle into otherwise vegetarian meals to make them tastier. Or in the rarer case, something you splurge on. Now, suddenly that huge investment of meat is broken down into basically the same cost-benefit analysis as herbs and spices; big up-front payments which will last for ages.
The best example for this can be found in my post about rendering bacon. A ton of up-front work that can be used for months or even years afterwards to great effect. But even with that, not all meals need meat. Mashed potatoes, vegetable soups, macaroni and cheese, cereal, eggs, spaghetti, etc are all great examples of delicious meals which don’t need meat to work well. If you put your mind to it, just about any meal can be made to have a meatless equivalent, and many more can be thought up without needing conversion. I’ll post plenty of vegetarian meals here for inspiration too.
Happy cooking!
Personal Passbook Account
They say - “There’s always a first time.” and yes this is my first time to open a personal passbook savings account. The prior passbook account we opened was a few days ago which is a joint account (which will be used for future plans).
Honestly, I’m not fond of having a passbook account due to the inconvenience of either withdrawing or depositing money into the account itself. But that is not the case now-a-days - with the help of online banking. The downside I saw in ATM accounts is the daily withdrawal limit and additional bank charge if getting money over-the-counter.
So what made me decide to open a personal passbook savings account?
First reason is saving money, since it is not very much accessible chances of getting money out of it is not as easy as having an ATM plastic card in the wallet so saving money is more feasible. :)
Second, serves as a different container, working as a freelance / virtual assistant we receive payouts via online money transfer. I personally am using (UnionBank EON’s) debit card as my receiving end. Since it is a debit card, it would be easy to swipe or get money from it. Not so good if I wanted to save money for the future.
Third, debit card for online purchases - I am hesitant in using credit card to be linked in my online profile such as in Apple AppStore or Google Play. I opt to use my debit card on cases such as purchasing an app from the app-stores. It would be easy to control spending rather than paying borrowed money.
Fourth, security - UnionBank EON debit card is linked online. Chances are if your online account has been compromised you may not want to imagine what could happen to your hard earned money. So it would be better to be safe than sorry.
I do suggest you open a passbook account with the bank you already have an account with. It would be much easier as your previous requirements can be used for verification. Less questions from the bank officers and you’ll get out of the bank in no-time.
I hope this passbook account will serve my purpose, to save money because of the inconvenience of getting money out of it and security, since this account will not be linked online.
Happy saving everyone!
