What kind of plant(s) do you really want that you don't have yet?
Oh, hi Sav. Good question.
I very much want a miniature tree: a lemon tree, a Japanese red maple, or both. I’d keep it in the corner of a room near a window or perhaps under a skylight if I had one, and I’d keep it pot-bound to prevent it from growing too large. However, trees are expensive—they’re easily over $100 US at garden stores, while an average houseplant is $20 tops.
I did make an attempt to do bonsai a few years ago, as a way to try to compromise on this interest of mine, but as it turns out I do not have the patience for an art like that. A sprig of a bush bent with wires to resemble a tree is not in fact a tree; it’s a lot more similar to some kind of finicky flowering plant. And while I’m good with some of those—I’ve mentioned my orchid before on this blog, and I’m currently working to grow a set of hyacinth bulbs after overwintering them in the fridge—I am not some kind of whiz plant guru. I can’t manage African violets to save my life, and evidently I can’t manage bonsai either.
