It’s hard to believe that ten years have passed since I was in high school. So much in my life has changed, and some of it still feels like it happened just yesterday. I’ve had a rough time growing up, but I graduated high school, college, and even completed a rigorous certification program not too long ago. Those are achievements people are supposed to make in life, but I still managed to do them, despite never thinking I really could.
I also met people in my life who were friends for a time, who gave me a glimpse of what having a dedicated group of friends looked like, even if I was just one small part of their world. Even though it didn’t last very long, I enjoyed being part of something more than me. I’ve spent a lot of my life having only one friend at a time, or no friends at all, but this decade gave me opportunities I will never forget. Even if they’re people I’ve met online, those are some of the truest friends I’ve ever had, and I’m glad to have them now.
There were many times I didn’t want to live through this life. Most poignantly when things were the worst they’d ever been in my life, but friendship got me through it. And even though that friendship seems to have ended, I’m still grateful for it having been. I felt what love was for the first time, and it was beautiful. In the past year, I’ve focused more on self-love and letting go of all the negativity in my life. I’ve let go and forgiven the things that hurt me, and I hope that one day, that friendship can return and be true. If not, thanks for the good memories.
Overall, it feels like a dream, to be where I am now. It’s almost absurdly ridiculous how I managed to end up ending the decade exactly where I’d left it, down to the same neighborhood. The same ponds. If ever there was a time when I believed in the universe making shit happen, it’d be now. I went through a lot of bullshit to get here, but I got here. And I’ve been in the best headspace in my life ever since moving out. So I can say for sure that I’m ending 2019 in a good place. And 2020, I welcome positive change in my life. Let’s fuckin’ do this shit.
