February 13th 2020 marks four years since we lost the most caring, courageous, understanding, thoughtful, talented, funny, smart young man the world never got a chance to know. On a normal Friday evening February 11th 2016 Joshua Jay Anderson Jr. for reasons that I cannot understand nor will I ever understand allowed the stresses of life to dim his light. Over the next two days our family struggled with what to do next. There was plenty of tears, lots of anger, feelings of hopelessness and questions of why. We were presented with the option of donating JJ's organs to possibly save someone’s life. We knew our son would have made the decision if he had the chance because that’s the kind of person he was. We encourage every licensed driver reading this message to go online now and add organ donation to your ID. There is no greater gift than knowing that in the tragedy of losing our son that JJ was still able to save 2 lives. Sometime during those two days JJ's mom Michelle Anderson decided that we had to do something to make sure no other parents would ever feel the pain we felt and that no other children ever felt as alone as our son must have felt. JJ's Hello Foundation was born. This year JJ would have turned 17. If you are still reading this post, we are asking everyone if they could donate $17 to help continue the fight in JJ's name to end youth suicide in our communities. Suicide is now the 2nd leading cause of death for our youth ages 10-24. More of our children die from suicide then all natural causes of death combined. If you have donated in the past, please share this post to your friends and family and ask them to donate. Your donation of just $17 helps us put 250 "Can you hear me" cards in the hands of someone who may be suffering from a mental health crisis reach out and get the help they need or helps us provide the Smedberg Leadership award to a deserving Smedberg student or provide life saving counseling for free to a child who needs help.
