Watch this animated chart as Suicide grew past Cancer and Homicides to become the 2nd leading cause of death since 1981. Mental health is a SILENT epidemic that continues to be ignored and did not start with COVID9 but will only become worse this year.

Adults to not magically catch a mental illness. Mental illnesses begin when our children are young either with depression, anxiety, ADHD and many others.

We must teach our children the tools to cope with their mental illnesses and let them know they are not alone. This starts with open and honest conversations with you the parent. Talk to them about how you feel and feeling a certain way is ok, that's it ok to not be ok.

Teach them seeing a counselor is a good thing. Teach them feeling sad is ok as long as you are being safe tomorrow will be a better day.

Teach them that if they have a friend who is struggling they need to go-to a trusted adult or text Hello to 741 741 for help.

We can slow down suicide just like HIV or Cancer but only if we are open to the difficult conversations and work together as a community.
