ngl but i think mcyt fandom is the only fandom ive ever been in (and ive been through many) that has a tendency to take real words with correct meaning and twist it to something else (like changing its meaning to fit a narrative or to make it into a meme)
the best example is the word 'apologist'
like the reason so many have discourse over it is because people mistake 'sympathizer' to 'apologist'
a sympathizer can care and like a character but also dislike and hate an attitude or action from said character; they dont fully approve of what this person did, or certain actions they have taken, but theyre still a fan of them and like them as a character
they like the character with their problems and flaws but they dont agree to everything their fave does or thinks
apologist (from what i know) on the other hand, think or believe their character makes no mistake or whatsoever; its like putting them on a pedastal, or believing all their actions are good, and everyone elses actions against them are bad
like do you see the big difference in meaning? yet this fandom still keeps using 'apologist' as a synonym for 'sympathizer' or 'fave'
yo they dont even mean the same thing, far from it even. tbh, i think we should cut 'apologist' from the mcyt vocabulary altogether to stop all the misscomunications lol
also this also relates like gatekeeping, or gaslighting, like those words have real life, dictionary based meanings, but because its turning into a meme, people misinterpret it and change its meaning for the sake of their own amusement
like, ive seen people on twitter and on tumblr that stated a certain ccs was 'gaslighting' and 'gatekeeping'
but no honey, theyre just ommiting facts, or theyre just lying, thats not gaslighting or gatekeeping, stop twisting the words and just use the right one like omg
