I got almost got scammed and I thought that I should let you know about this art commission scam it started on ao3 as a comment but it escalated from there as you can see
-----
Hello!
Thanks for letting me know about this.
Sadly it's not a 'new' scam, it's the ao3 version of the 'muse' scam. :)
You can find out more about it here:
💬 1 🔁 115 ❤️ 101 · 🚨Scammer Alert🚨 + 🔎Scam Exam(ination)🔍 · Seen as: 'I'm feeling so inspired by your picture/art!'
Scam Type: Muse Scam
I'm not sure what them "sending you a link" has to do with a credit card unless it's a scam website that will steal YOUR card information, but it definitely doesn't seem safe, nor would I ever do that....
Them using 'dear' is also a give away that it's a scammer, and if they were to ask for your paypal email it would be similar to the art commission scam that's also going around and can be found on my index via the pinned post. :)
THIS POST IS ARCHIVED AND WILL NO LONGER BE UPDATED
Disclaimer: This list is only meant to serve as documentation and reference material so that others know: what to look out for in regards to a scam, and who to block preemptively if you so choose. I do not, in any way, endorse harassment or mass reporting these users. Do NOT do this. I'm serious. DO NOT mass report. Only report these asks if you GET them or ones like them. Thank you.
Part 1 and part 2 will now serve as an archive for reference material and will no longer be updated with current/active scam accounts. Any new account will be posted here, and if it links to a scammer previously mentioned evidence will be provided from that scam list.
----------
index:
> means a name change. (banana (changed to) mango)
+ means multiple (active) accounts running the same scam.
Previously: means this account is running a scam previously used by an account listed on Part 1 or Part 2 of the scam list.
Recently: means this scam was seen on recently banned account.
(banned) blogs will remain until a new one shows up and then it will be moved to the Recently: category.
Evidence:
Evidence linked will be mostly in the form of call out posts that can be found by searching an accounts username on tumblr. If you are suspicious of an ask you receive, I suggest you please do the bare minimum and search their username on tumblr to see if they've been reported by other users to be a scam.
Reasons why all of these blogs listed here are scams:
Those saying they are 'vetted/verified' will not say by who.
Those saying they 'live(d) in Gaza' know nothing about it.
Those saying they are diabetic have no idea how diabetes works.
Their PayPal.me name are used by other scam accounts.
They use stolen stories/images (if searched via google).
They use multiple blogs to run the same scam.
They will reuse the same story word for word from past accounts.
They will block you if you try and ask questions. Go on. Do it.
They really like changing their 'real name(s). like, a lot.
Their accounts are only a few days/weeks/1-4 months old.
They reblog 5-10 things irreverent things then stop.
The list of evidence goes on and on.
If you have doubts, read the message at the bottom of this post.

Story and images 100% stolen from a real fundraiser.
Notes: The original fundraiser was requested/required to be stopped in 2023, and the person who it was for had their twitter deactivated at some point too. I (personally) cannot find anything on this person (Alessandra Olivero) still being alive, so I (personally) am under the assumption that they may have passed away. The scam accounts who use these images and this story in particular make me hella mad and I hope they suffer before they rot in hell.

If you have any doubts about the validity of this post:
I would not, nor would I ever, willingly or knowingly put someone on this list if I knew 100%, without a doubt, that they were a real, genuine person looking for help.
I (personally) have spent hours of my time gathering evidence in the form of searching names, copy/pasting things over and over into tumblr and google just to try and find different blogs, taking screenshots and making collages in photoshop, writing down and making entire in depth posts about how and why a blog is or isn't running a scam.
And I'm not the only one who does this.
Scam buster blogs, helpful users/anons, and many others, have been looking into and tracking these scammers for months.
These are not individuals we just saw on tumblr and decided to pick on for shits and giggles.
They are scammers.
They don't care about whose story they use or whose pictures they stole. They don't care how it effects someone or what lives they ruin.
All they care about is money.
So, remember to report their PayPal accounts if you can please. :)
Thank you and have a good day. <3
Helpful guides on how to spot scams. (by @kyra45)
Important tips and tricks on spotting scams.
If an author's only way of getting any kind of widespread audience reach is through unending Woe Is Me...
.... if the only time that author posts anything about their works is where they're talking about how They Are The Most Oppressed Person Ever in the history of humanity...
... Please back away from that Pre-order Button, and wait for that book to release, and read all of the non-5 star reviews before you commit any money to this author and book, *especially* if Kickstarters and other crowdfunding campaigns are involved.
Keep track of expected release dates for crowdfunded books, and track who's *actually received the books* and what they think of them and the physical quality of the book and the technical quality of the writing itself.
Especially keep alert for anyone who raises the red flag of AI prompts left in the text, rampant typos, lack of editing, etc.
Especially please be wary of anyone who.... claims to have received a literal, real letter from the FBI telling her to cease her writing under charges of domestic terrorism, only to have the only 'proof' of said letter be the world's worst AI Generated Image you've ever seen, and later go on to both privately, then publicly admit that she made it up, but only after doubling down and spreading panic throughout the trans community.
Anyone who is willing to deliberately spread false panic using ChatGPT in order to profit is not someone you should ever trust, ever.
Text me right now if you truly need help I promise to assist you with $200 if that will help you a long way +1-862-234-0977
using this as a REMINDER to those who get this ask in their inbox, this is a SCAM! Don't call that number.
if you really had $200 to give me, you would've already given it to me through the links I already put in my emergency post, dickhead. I'm not falling for your shit. Do something else with your life rather than harping of those who actually need the fucking money.
I’m getting a huge uptick in scam donation blogs messaging me asking to signal boost their post for their cat. So here’s a reminder that if a blog made in the last few days or few hours ago doesn’t follow you and you don’t follow them sends you an ask about reblogging their pinned post about donations it’s suspicious and probably the same scammer that’s been ripping off tumblr donos for the past few years. I’ve now gotten the exact same copy and pasted message from three different blogs about reblogging their pinned post for a different cat with different problems but all leading to the same PayPal account.
Things that make stuff suspicious to keep an eye out for:
Ask from a blog you have never interacted with and has never interacted with you before
Scrolling through the blog it has no posts from before a week ago (every single one I’ve seen takes about ten minutes max to scroll through)
Mentions that they can only take money through PayPal or cash app in the pinned post and aren’t going to set up a gofundme because they need the money immediately
Has pictures of a cat that have no people in them at all and a photo of a vet bill to make it look legit, but personal information on the bill (if visible) doesn’t match the PayPal information
The ask specifically says to not post it publicly or message them and their blog only has messages open - this is to minimize people publicly calling them out and letting people know about the scam
If you aren’t sure or feel up to it you can try Google reverse image searching the pictures they’re using to see if they’ve been used to ask for funds before. Often these photos have been skimmed and reused from other legitimate asks for help.
I got tagged by this user telling me suspicious activity has been detected on my account. The only post on their blog is one pretending to be tumblr staff with a "verification link" that's probably going to steal all your passwords or something. @9778698345678908786

This is the 'verify your account' scam. I made a post about it here:
