🎃 - Scarecrow Week 2023 - 🎃

For the sixth year in a row, I am hosting Scarecrow Week! This special time of year is dedicated to the one, the only, The Scarecrow! Prompts for each day are below, but you don't have to stick to them! Any creative content allowed, this includes art of all mediums, writing and poetry, and of course memes and edits! Show you love of Jonathan Crane however you like! Just keep your submissions safe for work please! Aside from that rule, go wild! (and if you feel you can’t complete the prompts in October, late OR early entries are accepted!)

Scarecrow Week will take place from October 25th - October 31st

Scarecrow week 2023 day 1:Trick or SCARE

Year One Headcanon

The pregnancy might not have been planned, but Jonathan was not an unwanted child. Karen Keeney and Gerald Crane had a brief relationship, maybe only having a one-night-stand before Gerald left town. He never knew Karen became pregnant, and she had no way to contact him. It may have been a personal choice or because she had been taught that premarital sex and abortion were grave sins, but she decided to keep the baby. She most likely hid her pregnancy from her grandmother Mary and mother Marion...until she couldn't hide it any longer. When she went into labor, they forced Karen to have a home birth with no doctor and no epidural. She was in labor for hours. That is hours of being scared and in pain and called a "whore" by her own mother. Karen most likely passed out from the pain and/or exhaustion after the last push, and when she woke up, she was told that either the baby had been stillborn or that they had "taken care of the bastard child". She had not gotten the chance to hold her son or even name him before she was thrown out and disowned. I don't know what Karen would've done had Jonathan not been stolen from her. Maybe she would go find Gerald, and the three could be a happy family. Maybe she and Jonathan would've lived on the streets, not ideal but far from the abusive Keeneys.

Years later, both Karen and Gerald are suprised when Jonathan appears. I don't know what type of father Gerald would've been, but I don't think he would've abandoned Karen if he knew of the pregnancy. I think Karen might've gotten into drugs and alcohol as a way to cope with the lose of her baby (or so she thinks), eventually leading her to marry an abusive man and having a daughter.
