Characters are from The Exiles Ever After. Her Imperial Eternity. Weaver of the Golden Thread of Fate. Blessed of the Faerie Queen, The Ever After Empress Valerian. 

Scarlet Sun, Rider of the Blazing Day, never really absorbed the meanings of all of Her titles until he first saw Her. And then he knew. 

She was graceful. She was wise. She was secretive, her every hand gesture and smile the calculated result of hundreds of thousands of minds processing in tandem. Everything She did, every action Her systems took moved the world a little closer to domination and eternal peace under the Empire. Knowing more about how She worked than most citizens and officials just made Her more terrifying, more awe-inspiring and beautiful. 

She was beautiful. No matter how many bodies She used and shed, the inner beauty of Her authority and power shone through. And Scarlet was in love with Her, all of her many minds and bodies.

It was that love that brought about a jealousy he knew could ruin him. 

Scarlet was a Flowerling, the smallest of the Kinfolk who lived in a “world of towers,” as the philosophers liked to call it. The Empress’s current body was human. He could comfortably sit in the palm of Her hand if She ever invited him to do so. He had been proud of his small size, how it served him as a spy and assassin, excerpt…

Oh, to stand face-to-face with the Empress, as human-sized Dark Midnight could do. To tower over Her and bow to one knee as Her gigantic warrior, as Bright Morning did. He loved his fellow Riders, but oh, to be all of those things and his tiny, wily self, to be her one Rider. 

It was a betrayal in his heart, treason against the vow of equal duty the three Riders shared. And it was nearly impossible. To shift back and forth so quickly without dying, to change size so dramatically, it was something no one in memory had done before. 

And Scarlet wanted it in the depths of his soul. He wanted to be her Flowerling, and her human, and her giant. 

He wanted to be Her everything, so that one day Her myriad minds would look upon him and only him.

[Music is a very big part of my life and I’m MOSTLY INCAPABLE of writing without music, so I just thought I'd share what I am listening to while writing this]

Constantly, I hope everyone is doing great and I’m guessing we are all very excited about tomorrow! I’m perhaps overly excited and all I need to do at this point is try and get some sleep, like for real, but I feel like I’m a kid again and it's Xmas Eve’s Night where even tho I ain’t tryna catch Santa, I’m too hyped to sleep 🙃 … ANYWAYS, As the name of this series suggests, this is not going to be anything excessively long, but rather just a quick observation regarding some cute/lucky/noticeable occurrence I might have noticed or that might have happened in correlation to Jikook.

Today I’d like to talk about a “little” K-Drama called The Moon Embracing The Sun, which is from 2012, like, a good 10 years ago, but good stuff, good stuff! I literally just finished watching and it took me two weeks because I was trying to make it last (and it is a good 20 episodes). As you might already have deduced, the fact that it talked about The Moon and The Sun made me think of Jikook and straight away my brain started braining as I began to better understand a very distinct difference between how The West and The East perceive the relationship between the Moon and the Sun (myself being born and brought up in The West). 

First of all, I was quite intrigued to find out that the drama was a love story between the Sun and the Moon, since (as some might have gathered by now) with me being really big on mythology (greek/roman in particular), I’ve always had a hard time thinking of the Sun and the Moon as anything other than twins, which is what Apollo (eventually god of the Sun) and Artemis (eventually goddess of the moon) are. In The East it appears that they for the most part star crossed lovers for something the moon did apparently, but lovers nevertheless.

My second thought was “I wonder if Jikook know about this drama …”. Just because theta re Korean I couldn’t assume that they would have known or watch it, particularly when in 2012 they would have been busy busting their asses tryna get ready to debut (to be precise as Jimin came to BigHit around May 2012 and the series ended in March 2012, perhaps he was busting his has to get into BigHit). 

But you know me, with the powers bestowed to me by Google I went snooping around and found out that during RUN BTS 73, the one where JK acted as a director, Taehyung actually reenacted a crucial scene from the drama itself. So if anything, they would have heard about it by then. Following is the episode on weverse:

Now, I don't want to ruin the drama too much for anyone in case you become curious and want to go watch it but the following object (a hairpin) appeared in the series and its explanation made me pause and go “Bro … Too soon 😬?”

Character receiving the hairpin asks: “What … is it?”

Character giving the hairpin replies: “The moon embracing the sun. The King is the sun and the queen is the moon. This hairpin … is adorned with the white moon embracing the scarlet sun, so I have named it The moon embracing the sun”

And by that time it was just so romantic the whole idea of the Moon embracing the sun, but then when JM came out with his photo-folio and many jikookers started pairing up this particular photo with one from JK’s photo-folio:

A White Moon and a Scarlet Sun? … As always, these are just MY observations but I ain't gonna lie, my brain took quite a few double-takes at this particular coincidence, and HEY, be it as it may, just a coincidence, it is one hell of a cute coincidence, right?

Project 0005 You’re So Vain: The Historical Records For Unknown Recordings Project

Update: The Wickett Things

Suzanne Wickett, the widow of Edward Wickett (lead composer and musician for The Wickett Things) recently discovered a hereto unknown one-sided acetate containing a different version of the song Scarlet Sun. At first, the assumption was that this acetate featured Suzanne singing lead vocals. However, this is a recording of Edward singing new vocals over the original 1968 music track.

The date for this recording is unknown. It likely took place after 1968, possibly during the period Suzanne and Edward entered Ultra-Sonic Studios to lay down Suzanne’s vocals. This would put the recording date somewhere between 1972 and 1973. There’s no explanation as to why Edward redid his vocals. It could be that he wanted to make the song sound more contemporary. His singing on this version is more bluesy, supplanting the psychedelic sound of the earlier recording. His new vocals sound more like the rock bands popular at that time, such as Grand Funk Railroad, Free, or Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

The sound quality of the new vocal track is great, making it a lot easier to understand Edward’s lyrics. Here, for the first time, are the complete lyrics for Scarlet Sun.

The artifact itself isn’t too different from the 1968 acetate. The song is pressed on the standard Audiodiscs brand lacquer disc that Ultra-Sonic Studios used for all of their test records. The record is also protected by a generic Audiodiscs paper sleeve. Besides the new vocals, the only difference between this acetate and the acetate pressed in the sixties is that it just features Scarlet Sun. Edward did not re-record Scarlet Sun’s b-side, Gerry.

If any new artifacts or details for The Wickett Things come to light, they will be added to this record. Until then, research for The Wickett Things is considered complete.

Object 1, Label 3: The Wickett Things Acetate Recording Vinyl Record, 45 RPM; Audio Devices, Inc. Generic Paper Sleeve

Notes: The record was found with its original generic Audio Devices, Inc. paper sleeve. Audio Devices, Inc. manufactured audiodiscs, blank lacquer discs used to cut inexpensive records for personal listening purposes. The studio would create a rough mix of a recording and then record that to a blank audiodisc. This would provide the artist, studio, or the label executives associated with the artist a recording that they could play on their own stereo system. The assumption is that this acetate was either made for The Wickett Things, C & E Productions, or Ultra-Sonic Recording Studios Inc.

Notes: The track on the other side of the record, Gerry, continues the sound heard on the first side. The biggest difference between Scarlet Sun and Gerry is that Gerry is simply organ and harmonies. There’s no brass section. This isn’t to imply that Gerry is weaker than its counterpart, its just that Scarlet Sun better demonstrates The Wickett Things proggy potential. The second side of the disc is almost a minute shorter than the first, helping to solidify the assumption that it was meant to be the b-side.
