I learned that's not even just like, an ethical responsbility but you can legit get in legal trouble if you expose minors to adult content with a blog. I mean it makes sense like yeah of COURSE, but seeing that just solidifies my derision even more for people who still fucking interact with blogs screaming about that boundary and that important action while actively being unmarked OR EVEN STATING THEY'RE A MINOR

I like this sequence because it highlights the effects of a way of speaking Vader has throughout the comic. Vader speaks here as though he had not been ordered to keep Jocasta Nu alive but is articulating his own wish. Instead of revealing that he is a servant, he presents himself as master.

(The Emperor willed that Jocasta Nu live. Vader is enacting that will as though it were his own, as though it were a law he had authored himself. But we know the law was authored by his master, that he is merely its interpreter. A lingering question in this comic has been: do his interpretations coincide with the meanings set down by the author? We see this in the beginning of the Fortress arc. Vader kills two Inquisitors for failing to carry out a law (capture a baby) according to his own interpretation (capture a baby my way), then claims to the Emperor that the Inquisitors had to die because they did not carry out the law in the spirit the Emperor himself would have intended (that is, he claims they were forming a coalition against "us"). The legislator here is the Emperor; Vader seems keen on remaining the only interpreter who matters. That his own interpretations include subversions of the law - destroying a list of children he has been ordered to obtain for the Emperor because those children could become threats to his status - seems crucial to understanding why he pursues anyone who might also be seen bending or interpreting the law, like the two Inquisitors. But this is a silly tangent.)

My point is that his way of speaking here generates uncertainty about his motives, generates mistrust and misunderstandings, not least because he refuses to explain himself.

What I mean is: had he said, “because the Emperor does not wish it” instead of presenting the wish as his own, had he acknowledged that he too is a servant, making himself on some ways equal to the Grand Inquisitor, the Grand Inquisitor might not have launched into the following tirade, as consequence of which Jocasta Nu manages to escape:

Vader does not proceed to explain that he is there on orders from their shared master. He does not proceed to help the GI get to “know” him. He insists instead on the divide between them. Unlike the GI, whose back is turned to Jocasta Nu, he can possibly see that she is preparing an attack. Instead of clearing up the misunderstanding so that attention is once more properly focused on Jocasta Nu, he lets the idea persist that there is nothing for the GI to “know” but Vader's wish to keep her alive.

Why? Perhaps he seeks to teach the GI a lesson: there is only one law, the law of power, and since Vader is stronger he should be obeyed. Perhaps he wishes to present himself as autonomous, as strong and unattached, unbound to any law but his own, an unknown factor - in order, say, to spread fear. Perhaps he does not want to reveal to Jocasta Nu why he is there. Perhaps he would rather be misunderstood than known, rather reap the consequences of seeming untrustworthy than be seen clearly (along the lines of a scene soon thereafter where a Temple droid identifies him as Anakin, presumably by scanning his eyes through the lenses of the mask).

However you interpret his motives, what is the case is that he doubles down on this strategy, insisting that what he wants is all that should matter:

There’s much to be said about the sliding-scale between trust and obedience (between Dark-Siders) and the role played by knowledge therein, but this has gotten long enough for a small point about how Vader presents himself to everyone but his master.
