“What, Swan.”

Emma tried to suppress a grin. “Nothing,” she lied, biting her lip and swinging her feet as she sat on the stool at Granny’s.

“It’s clearly not nothing, love.”

Reaching forward, Emma pointed towards his mouth, “You have, um, cocoa in your beard.”

Killian arched an eyebrow, quickly picking up the shiny napkin dispenser to check his appearance.

“And you were not going to tell me?” he asked as he pulled out a few tissues to mop up the offending beverage.

“You looked cute,” she replied with a shrug and then taking a sip of her own drink.

“I am not, not have I ever been cute. I’m a pirate, love.”

“So you say,” she laughed, placing the mug back on the table.

Now he was grinning.

“What?”

He leaned forward, “Now you have a cocoa moustache. And I must say you are very, very fetching with it.” And before she could say any more, he leaned forward, placing a kiss on her mouth and sliding his tongue over the smudge of cocoa.

Emma’s cheeks burned and her gut contracted at his closeness. God, he could make anything sexy.

“Much better,” he sighed as he sat back in his seat.

Emma made a note to stock up on cocoa in the new place.

2015 CS FIC REC MASTER POST

I decided to make a list of my favorite Captain Swan fanfiction I read in 2015. This is the year I really got into the fandom and the year I started reading fanfic for it. So, some of these will have been written before this past year. But 2015 is when I fell in love with them. I’m only including completed works here since this list is massive already, and I’ll do another post with WIPs I love. Some are well-known and others aren’t, and most descriptions are those provided by the author.

My all-time favorite is Halfway by @charmingturkeysandwich. (Rated M.) A multi-chapter modern AU take on Captain Swan that has smut, fluff, angst, friendship, and romance. It’s just so real -- the fights, the making up, and the humor are all so true to life. Not to mention my favorite fan depiction of Ruby. I think I’ve read this story four times, and it won’t be the last. (Keisha, you are so great.)

Another fave is Sometimes It Hurts by @captain-k-jones​. (M) It’s a divorce AU, but the angst is delicious and deserved, and the pay-off is so worth it.

Bedroom Hymns by @scheherezade06. (E)  Priest!Killian Captain Swan. Set in an alternate version of S3b. Storybrooke is cursed... again. This time, Killian Jones is caught in the curse, too, recreated as a man of God. With Henry and Neal in New York on vacation and Storybrooke sealed from the rest of the world, Emma has no choice but to convince Father Jones that he's more pirate than priest.

Inbox by everlastingwhy. (T) Based on the films The Shop Around the Corner and You've Got Mail, this is a CS AU in the modern world. Killian has been exchanging emails with a fascinating, worldly woman for years who he's never met. Emma and Killian are detectives in the same precinct who don't get along. Emma has also been corresponding with a man online for years but doesn't know his name or what he looks like, but when he suggests they meet, worlds begin to collide.

Late Night Cooking Adventures with Emma Swan by baseballandcupcakes. (T)  Emma Swan is pretty sure that 90% of the people she has met during her first week of college wouldn't last a minute if the cafeteria wasn't there to feed the drunk, hungover masses. But cafeterias (and drunks) have never sat well with her, which is why she's cooking in the communal kitchen in her dorm at 11PM on a Friday night when she meets Killian Jones in the most unexpected of ways.

a one-time thing and other untruths by @weezly14. (T) "She supposes the reason she tells him is the same reason she kept his phone number after all those weeks." Pregnancy has a way of throwing a wrench in one's plans.

Passing in the Night by @hooklineandswan. (E)  The castle, being a princess, has never felt right and one day Emma just flees in search of something more, ending up in a tavern where she meets the devilishly handsome pirate Captain Hook.

Poem Without Words by @totheendoftheworldortime​. (E) Art student Emma Swan models for professor Killian Jones. I can’t praise this enough and should have commented on every chapter, because they’re all perfect. 

Separate Lives by @lenfaz. (M)  Set after 3x20 "Kansas". After saving the town one more time, Emma decided to return to New York, leaving her past behind. Three years later, she realizes that might be not have been the best decision.

Sexy Retribution by thatsmuchbetter. (M)  Offering her help to her boyfriend's brother, Emma had no idea what she was getting herself into. Jealous!Killian. Smutty.

Sharing Space by singingisfun. (M)  After two years, Emma comes for visit and Killian offers to let her use his room while she's there. 

Smooth Sailing (With a Chance of Definite Passion) by @laschatzi. (M)  Canon-divergence from the end of season where neither Elsa nor Marian were brought back.

Splitting Heirs by @belovedcreation. (M) Princess Emma is the rightful heir to the throne, but after being kidnapped as a child and raised in another realm, she is hardly fit to run a kingdom. Prince Killian has spent years training for the crown, but his dreams are about to slip from his grasp when Emma returns home. Who will be the next ruler of Misthaven? It may become a matter of splitting heirs.

With Affection/Give Me Love Like Her by @phiralovesloki. Modern AU about note-passing neighbors told from both perspectives, one in each story.

1-2 Crush on You by @allrightfine. (M) Halloween-y smutty fluff. Fake-relationship-ish, but a take on it that I’d never seen before. 

High as a Kite by @effulgentcolors​. (T) Proposing on pain meds. (Also, I followed you for Buffy and you’re 50% of the reason I’m in love with CS now.)

If We Go Down, We Go Down Together by @swanisms. (E)  It’s their last Halloween Dance at Storybrooke High and “Lieutenant” Jones has plans to make it special for his “Princess” Emma, but best friends or fuck buddies, no matter what they are, they aren’t enough to outlast the night.

I’m like a puzzle (but all of my pieces are jagged) by @somanyfandomssolittletime/Philyra. (M) Integrated hockey AU, enough said. I love hockey stories, so this does it for me.

Laughter by @is-that-what-it-is. (T)  It's their first time together, but Killian and Emma can't stop laughing. So amazingly true to life. 

Roger by @oubliette14. (T) Her dog gets hit by a car. She can't afford the surgery. But when Killian Jones, a man she's known for all of two hours, up and offers to foot the bill, she sits there wondering just when exactly her life turned into a movie.

Santa’s Little Helper by @ooshka-babooshka. (G) I’m not biased at all since this was a present for me. Baking cookies for your son's class should be simple, right? But a slight miscalculation leads to Emma Swan accepting help from her neighbour Killian Jones. Is it OK to let strange men into your house if you only want to use them for their baking skills?

seven for all mankind by @captainkillianhjones. (G)  “we’re neighbours and we do everything together and spend all our time together and that’s normal, but someone pointed out how we’re essentially dating, but we aren’t, are we?” au

The Talk by SpiderButler. (NR) Hook tries to give Henry “the talk”. If Captain Cobra is your thing, this is perfect. 

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love them!

CAPTAIN SWAN FANFIC REVIEW ↪ Two Princes

Fic of Choice: Two Princes written by Scheherezade06 (tumblr link unavailable)

Status: Complete (33 chapters)

Plot: After a curse is cast on her sixteenth birthday, Emma finds herself running for her life in Neverland. Unsure of long she's been there, Emma spends her days wondering if she'll ever return to her parents. That is until she stumbles upon the famed pirate Captain Hook, who sees more is the beautifully broken swan than Pan gives credit for.

Overview: Not gonna lie I was a bit iffy about this in the beginning. I didn't have a real reason; the writing is good and both main characters are strong and fun. The length scared me a bit, but I got over it quickly and found myself wanting more as the story went on. 

Things I liked: The plot in itself is very different. Normally the Captain Duckling stories have Emma being very out of character; this is exactly how I picture Emma at sixteen if she was raised by her parents; give and take a few plot points of course. The background characters, including Snow and Charming as well as the other plots are fantastic. The use of Baelfire and his own storyline is very different fron anything I've ever read, and it's incredibly enjoyable. King Midus, Abigail, and Fredrick also make appearances, which is enjoyable, despite it being very small. 

Killian's own story line is very nice. His adoration towards Emma was adorable and one of my favorite points in the whole story. Despite being older than her (obviously) there are times when he acts like a love sick teenager and there is nothing cuter than that. They also open him up more later on in the story, and make him more than just some broken down pirate with a drinking pirate. 

Outlaw Queen also makes an appearance, and this is without a doubt the best couple in the entire story (not counting Captain Swan, of course). Regina is so sassy and Robin is such a smart ass, they work so well together. I want a story just for them after this. 

What I disliked: There is a TinkFire story line that I found to be a bit forced. I know a lot of people ship Tinkerbell and Baelfire, but for this it just didn't do much for me. Also, Baelfire gave a small speech that basically ripped off Emma's speech to Neal when she had to be honest with him. I don't know, that just rubbed me the wrong way. Also, Emma had maids that were just rather annoying to me, but aside from that, it was fine. 

Final words: All in all, it's worth reading. It features so many elements that not many stories have a once. Also, the lack of Rumpelstiltskin is rather refreshing, since a lot of people use him as a villain. I don't think he is even brought up in this story. Anyway, if you're into long stories with a lot of depth and character develpoement, check it out. Probably won't be disappointed. 

Final rating: 7/10 diamond studded swans.

CAPTAIN SWAN FANFIC REVIEW ↪ Bedroom Hymns

Status: Complete (6 chapters)

Plot: While Henry and Neal are on a trip outside of Storybrooke, a new curse takes over, leaving everybody to forget who they are; everybody expect for Emma. Losing hope fast, Emma goes to the one person she believes can help her: Captain Hook. Only problem: Hook is no longer the one handed problem Emma has grown to love, but rather a clean shaven and protected Priest, who has trouble believing Emma, despite his dreams telling him otherwise. 

Overview: Unknown to me for the longest time, I've had the weirdest addiction with Priest who go against the order for their own love/lust. I blame the Thorn Birds for this. Anyway, I stumbled upon this by accident, and oh was I thankful. One of, if not the best, addition to the Prist!Killian plot. The author really gets into it and seeing Killian as a man of God rather than his usual guy-liner wearing bad boy self. 

Things I liked: Killian is a freaking preist. What is there not to love? Granted, I am sure that both would be going to hell in the end for the fun they had, but that is totally debatable. Emma's own character is very much like how she is in the show; so lost, but also strong; ready to do whatever it takes to protect the ones she loves. Not many background characters, though Neal and Henry are featured for a second, as well as Snow White and Charming at the end. 

Killian's own inner battle with who he is is also something worthy of checking out. This is a man who has obviously been through so much, so when the time comes, he isn't even sure if he wants to go back, believing his old self to be a terrible, cruel man. 

What I disliked: There wasn't much that I disliked about this story. Perhaps the dialogue towards the end was a bit strange, but that's easily ignored. Also was a bit confused with Emma's relationship with Neal and why Henry was gone, and if they remebered her or not. Again, it doesn't take up much of the plot, so it's not bad. 

Final words: If you like sinning, then this is the fic for you. Beautifully done and totally fun. One of my favorites and I definitly suggest you give it a chance if you haven't already.

Final rating: 9/10 diamond studded swans.
