Hi! For the prompts, #82 for fshenko, please and thank you! ^-^
Prompt 82: “Looks like we’ll be stuck here for a while.” (Art below by Zenopic) I hope you enjoy this!
Gina trailed her fingers down the foggy windowpane as the night outside rumbled threateningly. Rain pelted down in unending sheets, and lightning flashed, briefly illuminating fir trees and rolling black clouds before the darkness closed in again.
For an instant she’d seen the shape of a husk outside in the outline of a sapling, and the bright flash of lightning had seemed, for a moment, to be a reaper beam. She shivered, half expecting to hear the loud bone-shaking sound of the reaper, but there was nothing; just the rain.
The war had been over a long time.
She turned from the window to find Kaidan kneeling by the crackling fire he’d managed to start, placing large pieces of splintered hardwood into the flames. She watched him for a moment; his careful precise movements, the way his strong hands gripped each piece of wood, and the flex of his muscles under his shirt.
He glanced up, frowning, as an especially loud crack of thunder split the air, and lightning, bright as a reaper beam, lit up the window. The lights in the cabin flickered for a moment and then went out, leaving the fire to cast it’s dim glow around the room. Gina swallowed, her heart hammering as the wind howled outside, something in the tone reminding her of banshees.
“Well,” he said as he straightened, dusting his hands off on his jean-covered thighs and glancing around the cabin. “Looks like we’ll be stuck here for a while. That storm isn’t going anywhere quickly.”
Gina forced a smile and made her way towards him. “I can think of worse places to be stuck.” Thankfully her voice sounded strong, no sign of fear. “And worse people to be stuck with.”
She managed a smile.
Kaidan grinned and took her hands in his, drawing her onto the rug beside him as the wind howled louder and he sensed her discomfort. As always, his arms felt safe as they wrapped around her. It was wonderfully warm and she happily snuggled in Kaidan’s arms as the rain drummed down. He pressed a kiss on the top of her head and rubbed his cheek against hers.
“You okay?” his voice was soft, his words careful and measured, and his hold tightened around her reassuringly.
As always, the sense of being held fast, of being safe and protected, filled her with a sense of calm, and Gina nodded, relaxing into Kaidan’s arms as the storm raged.
“Yeah,” she looked up and met his golden eyes, the colours dancing and reflecting the flickering flames. “As long as you keep holding me I’ll be fine.”
Kaidan’s gaze softened even as his hold on her tightened, and he bent his head and caught her lips with his, the kiss as sweet as summer rain as his tongue teased her lips apart in a stroke of velvet heat. When he drew back, a warm glow seemed to spread inside of Gina, and she looked up at him sleepily as he pressed his forehead against hers and drew in a deep breath.
“I’m yours,” he murmured quietly. “Whatever you need, whatever you want; arms to hold you, or a place to call home. I’m yours.”
“Kaidan ... . “
Their mouths met again as thunder cracked loudly, but this time, Gina didn’t notice.
