udyati mutters something that sounds suspiciously like 'amma's gonna get the chappal and we're gonna be beat to death by it' but of course she's gonna come with. this is kate. and it's stupid. it's really freaking stupid but ever since they kissed at the party that udyati didn't wanna be at in the first place, she hadn't been able to get kate out of her head. which is why she's here, ready to break some rules with the aforementioned girl. gods, her mom's gonna kill her when she finds out. she's gonna kill udyati, and then kate, and then udyati. again. "so long as you get me home when we're done breaking the rules, okay?"

'go to a party,' classmates said. 'it will be fun,' classmates said. well, an hour and a half in and udyati was more than ready to go home. she'd found herself a place on top of the stairs, shrouded in shadows. from her little spot, she could people watch to her heart's content; she could make up little stories about people she'd never get to know.

one day, udyati would get out of shadyside. one way or another.

kate finds her while she's nursing her second drink of the evening. there's a pleasant buzz in her veins. enough to keep her warm, enough to loosen her tongue but not enough for her to lose her inhibitions all together.

"you don't look like you're having fun."

"that's because i'm not. i think i'm gonna finish this drink and then go home."

"bummer. i think i could think of one thing that would make you want to stay, though."

kate leans in and kisses her. for half a heartbeat, udyati tenses up, caught unaware. but then she relaxes, leans into it, and returns the kiss as best she can. udyati can taste the alcohol on kate's tongue. she's never been kissed by a girl before. and, sure, kisses are kisses, and she's been kissed by guys. but this? this is different, somehow, in a way she can't quite explain.

(what she lacks in experience, she makes up for with enthusiasm.)

that is, until kate breaks the kiss to rasp out: "okay, you gotta go slow, honey." udyati flushes but does as she's told because she's always been good at that. following directions is something she's always done well. almost too well.

the second time around, udyati is the one to initiate the kiss, pressing her lips against kate's. slowly. sensually.
