SHUTTLES
kind people gifted me these when they heard i bought a loom. and i can't use them because they're flying shuttles haha
so urgh i think i'm saying goodbye to them but before i do, a moment of appreciation!
DETAILS
they are so nice
look at the wood pattern and funky shape of that last one!
Manufacturing these required a lot of precision. Many were made from condensed wood, to make them heavier so they fly better. and then technology developed to send weft threads through the shed with air jets, making shuttles like these obsolete and i really need to get back to packing!
augh if anyone knows of resources to read up on shuttles specifically let me know i am DYING to look at pictures of handcarved ones given as tokens of affection especially because i know this was a tradition and haven't seen much on it but i would be equally enthused to get my hands on something technical about thread control in flying shuttles!
